Sticky Mail Count vs. Post Count

50:50, equal, or ...?

Since 1,5 month we run our own bb. We have already a few hundred members and posts and to my surprise the total private message count is more than 50% of the total post count ... our members seem to discuss a lot via private messages instead of doing so in our forums.

Now i'm curious how the balance is here at WebmasterWorld between sticky and post count ...? Brett, would you like to give me a hint?

I kept stats on it for awhile, but they never told me anything other than 'ya, people use it heavily'.

Thanks for this insights, Brett.

Don't you think this could be a sign for something (p.e. that people sometimes don't trust in the community)? Or doesn't it matter at all as long as the community, the post count and the quality content grows accordingly?

Nah - we talk about everything in StickyMail. I have not qualms at all about heavy msg'ing in StickyMail - that's what it is there for.

I am a heavy user of the sticky, and find its 1 of the crucial factors of this site, to get into 1-2-1 dialogue with a fellow member.

Its the natural route, as certain things are not acceptable on the threads for one reason or another.

I often sticky members with a recommendation or URL which "may" solve the problem they oroginally posted about.

I also get stickys from people asking 1 thing or another, and I always try and reply straightaway.

Hey, I even sticky Brett every once in a while, just for the sake of it :)

the fastest dude on sticky round here is Lazer.... , do not get into stickys with that guy, he will drive you too type at twice the speed.

Sorry, but this is totally off-topic, but amusing none-the-less. Well, it is to me any how.

Take note, that my nickname is "Sticky." Now, read this thread, and in fact Shak's post again with this tid-bit of information in mind. Makes for some amusing reading.

Sticky me if you want to know why my nickname is Sticky. *ahem*
