Forums : Spliting-off threads

What forum software provides this?

I run a reasonable popular and growing fast forum, and I have the problem that this forum software has solved. Users discussing another topic in a thread about something else. The solution is to take those posts, and turn it into a new thread.

I currently use phpbb.com forum software, and that feature is not there. Is there any (free) forum software that can do this. And/or to the people who wrote it : any tips if I wished to add this to forum software?

One question I have is when spliting off the thread, some posts may be about the new topic, some may be about the old one, do you individually select which posts go where? or a "everything below this line" type apprach?
Also, was your database designed this way from the begining?

phpBB2 does support splitting and lets you select which posts out of a thread you want to move to a new thread. If your happy with phpBB, I'd upgrade - I don't know if the feature was buried in version 1 or if its new for version 2

Everything here is custom designed, and incredibly feature-rich. There's no other word but elegant to describe it; plus, in spite of the sophistication you can almost think it and it's done, that's how much ease there is in using it.

There's no way possible any existing system could have all we do. There are years of first hand community management experience that went into the thought process, both on a technical and a needs-based "people" level, so no stone's been left unturned.

If you're satisfied with what you're using and it suits your needs except for a feature or two, it's a fine product - I'd have to agree with going with upgrading.

I am using phpbb2.. but I can't see that feature!

UPDATE: I found it :) Just wasn't sure where to look and I had never noticed it before.
