"For three years we have operated Webmasterworld under the quiet terms of a contributionware site. It continues to be our goal to raise the quality of material available on Webmasterworld and to remain an independent site that serves the community. It has been by the generosity of our members we have been able not only to do that, but have become known net wide as an authoritative source on search engine optimization and marketing matters."

Aside from supporting WebmasterWorlds continued operation and expansion, subscribing to the site has tangible benefits. Members receive:

  • Access to the private supporters forum. It is made up of some of the best professionals in the business in a much more relaxed atmosphere.
  • 25% off the cover price at all WebmasterWorld hosted conferences.

    maybe I missed the announcement?

I "think" that page is very very recent. I may be wrong but am pretty sure of it.

No doubt Brett will be posting an announcement real soon if NOT already done!

The contribution page has been up for ages, and the supporter's forum has been live since early November [webmasterworld.com].

The fact that it's news to two well established contributors might suggest that Brett could improve the visibility of this offering though.

    Dante,

I am referring specifically to the "subscription" section/text on the Donate page, I regularly look over there and had not seen it before.

As for the supporters forum, well thats a whole new playing field :)

Looks like a subscription page replaced a donation page.

I am hoping he tries to use the real paypal subscription
service where it can do a renewing charge every month.
$5 or $10 a month I would actually pay for this site (but no
other site I can think of).

Cash is always low and I don't like running up credit cards, true monthly subscription is the answer -aV-

This is one of those cases where it's taken a sheer force of will to keep me from going back to edit my last post and then pretending like it never happened. ;)

    New indeed.

I checked it only yesterday before the subscription update.

Just beta'ing it for the moment. Surprising how soon that was noticed by all. I'd just done that this morning a few minutes before anyone posted about it. More info in a few days.

As for someones comment about PayPal, all I can say is I have put 10's of thousands through them and clients have put well into six figures through them. We've never had a single problem. Chargebacks are virtually non-existent and payments are instantaneous. I've got nothing but good things to say about pp - every experience I've had with them has been rewarding and positive. I feel it is an outstanding service that fullfills a need and they do it better than any other payment processor I've seen bar none.

I fully acknowledge they had some problems when they were frist starting. They've corrected those and the last two years have been a perfect track record. I've never dealt with a company that I have as much to say positive about them as PayPal (knock on wood).

Compare that to the standard merchant account/internet gateway where I have had nothing but problems and headaches. From Verisign to the Ibill's it's been chargebacks, fraudulent cards, missing customer service, bad confusing interfaces, addon fees, and all around gotchas - I loath dealing with those people and their services. (verisign has been the worst company as far as products and services, that I have _ever_ dealt with in my years - worse than Microsoft) I feel I can lose 10% of my customers and still come out money ahead by using PayPal.

Split off the site topics on payment systems [webmasterworld.com].

I do think "amznVibe" is on the right track, if you have to go to subscription. I think that if Brett and Googleguy can come to agreement and publish dates for up and coming dances, you would see alot more members. Is the long term plan to make the whole site subscription only?

Not at this point in time GLL, but that option is always on the table.
