Forum Moderators: open
When I'm away for a few hours, the new messages extend beyond page one and when I click on to page two, the indicators disappear... even if the messages have been posted since my last visit.
Of course the easy answer is... "don't ever leave WebmasterWorld for more than a half hour", but alas, I am clearly misguided in such matters. ;)
Takes some time to get into the habit of but works exceptionally well.
I reset last read pointers in the forums I follow most every time I read through the new stuff. Then before leaving I usually reset everything leaving only new stuff when I come back.
I think it also reloads the active list when you go to the second page so that if you return to the first page the reload will affect what is bulleted there.
The active list isn't the best way to track all new messages when you leave for a bit.
I think once you become an active list junkie there is no other way to view WebmasterWorld:), but I guess we all have our preferred methods of viewing the site.
I would guess the problem comes in because when the second page loads, your "last visit" reference is the time you viewed the first page - so everything else gets marked as read.

Exactly. :)
There's no question that BestBBS is phenomenally superior to virtually every other forum software out there.
IMO, the three things that would make it downright impeccable are:
1) New Message indicators for the Active Posts list that work beyond the first page.
2) Improved search functionality that is fairly standard elsewhere. (search by date, by recency, by keyword in title and / or message body, by member's name)
3) Automatic line breaking in the posting script to prevent the need for horizontal scrolling when overlong character strings are used.
and perhaps a far distant fourth...
4) Greater customization of user profile screen.
here is a special link that you can bookmark, that will display 100 msgs on the first page of the active list.
I also see that the number of posts displayed can be selected by altering the last few characters in the URL string. Now I've got it bookmarked to display my choice of either 100 or 200.
Thanks a million Brett! :)
