New User and Ranking

How does the Webmaster world user ranking work?

I am now at 20 posts and get a distinct feeling that I will be elevated to a junior user soon. I guess I will be a little deflated to find that the user level might just be tied to total posts. Of course, I have no intention of offending the great work done on this site. I mean, I really enjoy all the late night reading of endless threads on page rank, keywords, doorways, blind text, linking farms etc etc. So IMHO (Leaned that here) I think the brainiachs we have here could come up with some really swell additions to the user ranking equation. In the current scenario, some people could get a high rank for just being chatty. So I thought we could use this thread to come up with extra parameters for the user ranking.

My Input:

Question Rank (Or QR)

First we need to determine the average thread length. All say 20 for this example.

QR would start at 1 for all users over 20 posts and go up to a max of 10. Basically a user posts a thread. If the thread makes it to 20(the average) it would be worth 1QR point. For every 10 additional questions the thread receives the QR could increase by a point with a maximum QR of 10 points per question. On the negative side if the thread receives less than 20 posts the QR would be decreased by 1. Further if the thread receives less then 10 posts the QR would loose 2.

Example: Joeblow posts a thread that receives in excess of 120 posts, he would get 10 points.

The postees in the thread could be allocated QR based on this equation:

Original Post*Postee(1-x)

x equaling the position in the thread up to 100 in increments of .01

The total QR for each user would then be divided by total post and wala you have Question Rank.

You get the idea; once we have the QR we will have a better user relevancy. I suggest running an update monthly, perhaps on holidays.

Now SEO people this is just a meager start. I am sure if you put in the elbow grease we could Make Webmaster QR much more difficult then Google PR.

Beware the dreaded QR0 :((Learned That Here)

Note to mansterfred

At least you have increased your posts by 2 on this thread ;)

I don't think that you will actually find anywhere the number of posts you need make to get "elevated" to the next nomenclature.

Apart from the fact the "new member" may be a bit demeaning to the user, it does not really mean anything, other than for users to see how long you have been around for.

Its fairly easy to decipher the "ranks" by just looking at the break points in other users profiles

Look forward to a quick "promotion" to junior member ;)

Thanks for that theadrank info, very useful.

But what I envision is a super complex userrank system. Where is Rube Goldberg when you need him?

Thanks for that link, I have been round a while now, and never actually came across the exact numbers before.

Its amazing to think that Brett adds up the totals every day before he logs off in order to grade us ;)

For those who haven't noticed, posting in WebmasterWorld Community Center don't count. :)

I think the original post in the community forums counts towards total post count, Lawman, but follow-ups don't.

Of course, I've been wrong before...:)
