I seem to have missed a key element here.

I know the Supporters Forum requires contributing to WW.

What I can't find anywhere (yes, I've used the search and read the "NOW OPEN" thread, and the thread from back in August) is what the benefit of joining (contributing) is in the sense of what's there that isn't in the general threads.

I've learned a lot here, and am willing to contribute.

Surely there must be some description or summary of what this new forum is about?

Are the subjects covered in more depth?

Is the help offered more specific?

What are the benefits of paying to get access to that particular forum?

>I seem to have missed a key element here.

Afraid so :)

The donate button [look top right] was here long before the secret forum, the new forum is just a thank you to people who have contributed. It is the act of contributing that helps keep the whole system going not the special forum.

I couldn't comment on what goes on behind closed doors. Mind you that thread on how to tell if you are banned from <edit>major search engine</edit> was mind blowing.

It is a forum by and forum those that have supported us. Its a perk of membership. They asked for it, and we gave it to them. Topics are wide open to anything on the members minds without moderation needed.

Given the caliber of the people involved, you can pretty much assume what we are discussing.

Thanks for considering donating.

I just wanted to add that Brett has always done a wonderful job with these forums which have made them the valuable resource they are. This does not come without cost as we all know (since it isn’t hosted on geocities). This along with the tremendous amount of time a board like this takes for moderation and support. I am sure any webmaster that visits this forum has gained much more then the small donation it takes to have access to the private forum. As you can see this forum is void of advertising and pop-ups/unders – I appreciate that, and believe most others would have long turned to this avenue of gaining revenue with a forum as popular as this. The moderators of this board also deserve pat on the back for the fine job they do :)

My 2-cents

Not much to do in the way of moderation. Fix a broken link here or there is about it. Just don't see the need - it's your forum.

I don't do Paypal. Where do I send a check?

All I saw on the donate page was a paypal link.

What happens when the inner forum becomes as popular as the public forum?
Double the pot and split it again?

>>>Topics are wide open to anything on the members minds without moderation needed.

Those that join are usually already well-accustomed to our culture, so we don't really have to be on constant watch for promotional posts, flame-baits, or rude behavior. Not having to worry about urls being posted takes a massive load off moderating.

Many of the members that have been around awhile have commented that "it feels like the start-up days of WebmasterWorld" --I think it's about as close as we're going to get.

> inner forum becomes as popular as the public forum?

I don't know. I expect the volume of the inner forum will one day cause it to start sub-dividing and spawning other inner forums, just as Foo and Webmaster General did for the public ones when they were being formed. There's going to be growth there, no doubt about it, but, as mentioned above, the demands of moderation are so much less on the inner boards that it makes it pretty easy to handle. ...The only problem is that there isn't enough time to read everything already!

Never happen. Even with just voluntary contribution as the barrier of entry, freebie seekers will always outnumber contributors by at least 10:1

join us...

You will be assimilated...

But really, it's a very useful forum. I've used it to ask questions I wouldn't normally post in the public section.
