Seems to be an above average number of newcomers these days

Is it just my imagination, or have 1st posters increased dramatically.

I seem to write welcome alot, and also noticed I have missed the greeting, as the "post" catches my interest more than usual.

Yes fathom, you do. You're always very hospitable and helpful, which is very much appreciated.

We always do have a steady flow of new people, but sometimes the growth seems to come in spurts of increased activity that are very noticeable. And it does seem to be escalating now.

It's also nice that we've got a broad spectrum of different levels of members, which is growing all the time, all the way from seasoned, experienced people to those just starting out and learning the basics - and all shades of intermediate people who fall somewhere in between.

There's an extra challenge of reading posts carefully to try to discern the experience level of the people asking questions and trying to target responses to meet their particular need, but there's also tremendous opportunity for growth and for all of us to broaden the scope of our knowledge, understanding and outlook.

The exposure to so many different perspectives helps us all grow, and the most important part, imho, is having and maintaining the accepting, welcoming environment. That way we can all flourish, both as individuals and as a community.

<smacks Mack around the head!>

Tsk Tsk. Go straight to jail and do not collect the next 200 posting points!

I think the number of first posts shoot up whenever Google sneezes (makes changes in its algo, that is!) :)

I think it happens everytime Wired runs a Google article, and quotes a WW thread.

Ya, page views, uniques, and signups are up across the board. It's the normal fall growth spurt for us.

Of course I want to add my welcome [webmasterworld.com] at every opportunity.

I do appreciate it, as Marcia mentions here, when folks are welcomed and feel welcome to post. I always notice the members such as fathom who are welcoming others.

Also if folks have tips or helpful ideas for our new members and want to post those in the welcome letter thread I think that would be terrific.

Hi all,

I'm one of the newcomers.

I arrived here via Google - searching for info on SEO - and up popped a WebmasterWorld page. Been lurking and learning ever since.

Hi HarryM and welcome to WebmasterWorld.

Been lurking! 8 days! That's not lurking, that's weighting your options.

Glad your here anyway, and many fruitful discussions to come! :)

Somebody mentioned your HTML validator in a danish forum. I tried it and being there I found your forum. That's how the Internet works!

...not only growing in population, but in actual size as well. The index page is getting huge, but I like it! I feel encouraged to read more and tend to stay longer sometimes.

well done.
