Couldn't get on WMW half the day (middle european time). Is it me or was the site down?

*whew* Sounds like it went down while I was trying to figure out how to make glass eyeballs last night... and came back up before I got to work this morning.

Glad I missed it. I develop terrible tremors when I have to go without for very long.

The wmw IP address is 64.33.51.156. Type that in next time wmw DNS goes down. Of course, this won't work if the server is down.

Chris.

It turns out that what happened is that there was a major storm that caused a power outage and put a major backbone out of commission.

Very nice reply from the host:

Last night and early this morning, a major storm caused a connection problem
with UUNet (our major backbone provider). Apparently their power was lost
for an extended period of time. There was no damage done to the WestHost
servers. Everything should be back to normal now. We understand how
important your web site is to you, and we are very sorry for the
inconvenience this may have caused. Over the past 4 years, we have been
able to maintain above 99.9% uptime, but sometimes things that are out of
our control happen, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during
these times. We are working hard to make sure that something like this does
not happen again.

Where are the diesel tanks and backup generators when we need them?

I've read 3 scattered reports that a tripple lightning strike hit a data center.
