Re: Member Ranks/Post Counts

I think every member has asked this question at least once: When do I become a Senior (Junior, Full, Preferred, etc...) Member? How is member ranking determined? I'd like to make a suggestion:

Why not have the rank text itself be a link to a table showing the post count/ranking levels? That way, the curious new member could click on anyone's rank (Gee, what does _Senior Member_ mean? *click*) and immediately see a simple explanation of the system, along with a few relevant notes (such as: "Reply posts in Foo do not count towards your total").

Good idea? Forget it? Would it be difficult to implement?

BTW... for the curious, here's the current rank/post count levels:

New user = 0
Junior Member = 20
Full Member = 80
Preferred Member = 200
Senior Member = 400

Nah.. too boring..

Virgin = 0
Beginner Spammer = 20
Up and Coming Spammer = 80
Ragin' Spammer = 200
Veteran Crazy Grey Hair Spammer = 400
I don't have a life = 1,000 (Oops.. 92 to go!)

Jus' joking.. I know we joke amongst ourselves that we are spammers, but I see the opposite 99% of the time.

I think it should be a power of 2 thing:

10 drip
20 dweeb
40 ass
80 fool
160 idiot
320 imbicile
640 moron
1280 ninny
2560 nitwit
5120 simpleton
10240 nerd

Titles, of course, are arbitrary. That way, you have to work twice as hard to get to the next level as you've already worked.

No, I think up to the number would have the name applied. So by that criteria, you'd already be a nitwit!

I'm kind of partial to Uber-Poster... it has POWER written all over it!

But since most of my posts are CSS related, it might not be a good idea to aspire to CSS Uber-Poster... ya think? ;)

Guess I'll settle for CSS Nerd...

I hate to be a party-pooper, but I think The Chief would be thinking about how much it would take in resources to have all that clicking going on.

Anyway, what would we call rcjordan with his post count if FOO counted? He's probably got close to 20K posts real count, not counting <snips> and <bleeps>.

Good idea?

Yes, I think so.

We just need an rcjordan category. It speaks for itself.

rc doesn't get a rank. He's transcended rank. Same with Brett. They have to run around the forums naked...

Everyone else gets a rank with a link to the explanatory table.

I really like Xoc's list, but you need to put "twit" at level 1

I wonder if this kind of thread will push that many lurkers to register?

Lurkers, you now have 24 hours left before Xoc's list take over!

What if you are ranked as an ass based on number of posts, but you truly feel the quality and insight of your posts demands that you be recognized as an imbecile or a moron - will there be a method to appeal your ranking? :)

Mardi_Gras

You are currently a "Dweeb". Appeal will do you no good. You should realize it takes a tremendous amount of dedication, patience and surplus time to reach the level of a vaunted "imbicile".
