Ban " I Got Banned Posts " without review .

Moderators need to review such posts before allowing them to be published.

I have become paranoid after reading :
" I got banned for doing nothing wrong " kind of
posts.

The various webmasters who post under this head have no obligation to share their URL ( as per WW TOS) with us and consequently we have lot of misinformation that comes up.

All members try to guess at the reason and their guessing game can create major problems for us, new members. Not all information that is disseminated is correct and guesses can really go wild.

I feel such posts should be pre reviewed by moderators or selected senior members before publishing. The website of the poster should be properly pre scanned by the moderator before allowing such posts. Rest of us can thus be sure that prima facie the poster did nothing wrong and can then proceed with our analysis.

This way of working 'blind' in such serious cases is not a good idea.

What do you guys think?

one sticky moderator finger could result in us all being banned.

I wish ;)

> moved.

my fault.

In the office we have a projector screen with the WebmasterWorld active list on it. The laptop that drives the projection loads the active list under Opera browser. It is set to "reload" every couple of minutes.

That is all fine except with someone walks by and performs an admin funtion like moving a thread. Then they hear the phone ring and walk away and leave the window in that state. Thus, the action page reloads, and reloads until someone walks by a gain and sees it.

Back to the topic at hand.

The idea of a premod in AdSense has been talked about and rejected a few times. We have talked about banning the "i'm banned" threads entirely - or just splicing them onto the end of a flavor-banning-of-the-month thread.

So, Brett, the way a troll could crash Webmaster World is to post an "I've been banned message", wait 30 seconds, then give you a call and keep you talking on the phone...

Of course, because this message gives said trolls the idea, it will itself have to be deleted.

Don't anyone call Brett in the next 30 seconds.

It's easy enough to not open threads where one doesn't like the topic. No premodding needed there.

but.....

This thread is several months too late. All of these issues have been addressed, resolved, end of story.

is about as arrogant a statement made by a mod or admin as I've seen since joining WW. In my opinion it's hard to imagine a statement that shows less respect for the concerns of members of this forum.

Perhaps there should be a mother-of-all-banned-threads with some aggregated posts from members who know what they are talking about which respondants could link to early in the discussion of the ban issue.

OP: Wah, wah, I got banned and did nothing bad!
P1: Sorry to hear about your problem - perhaps the best thing is to read [this] mother-of-all-banned-threads thread - it will give you a lot of information on the subject, including how to write to Google and what you might have mistakenly done wrong.
OP: Thanks for that link, I'd not seen that thread before, very useful.

End of thread.

It's hard to imagine a statement that shows less respect for the valuable yet thankless task that moderators do.

This subject has been discussed before. I stumbled across a thread earlier today from a year ago that was along almost identical lines. It seems valid, to me, to point out that this has been discussed umpteen times before, so let's move on.

Not arrogant at all. Martinibuster was merely correct. For months now, every "I've been banned" thread has been closely watched, and at the first sign the thread is becoming unproductive, a pointer to further information has been posted and the thread locked.

If anything it happens a little early for my taste, but at least the threads aren't pre-screened. IMO if people are getting banned then it should be addressed in the open rather than having a moderator investigate the circumstances and communicate directly with the poster.

Sorry Ken, with great respect for your opinion, I have to disagree for the following reasons.

There was a very long post [webmasterworld.com] that touched on this issue (among other issues) months ago (in fact, you posted in it), and one thing that was very clear is that the members expressed their concern that the "I've been banned posts" (among other kinds of posts) should be handled more proactively.

So in respect for the concerns of the frequent posters of the AdSense forum, we decided to take a more proactive response that balances the concerns of the members for less noise, with the needs of the banned for solid information on how to get unbanned. This isn't something automatically applied either, each post is individually considered.

The statement that this thread is several months late is a reflection of the fact that we have been on top of this issue to the best of our abilities for months and proceeding with respect to the concerns made explicit by the members of the AdSense forum.

My highest concern and primary motivation is for what makes the members happy, and for what makes this forum a good place to hang out in and find good information. ;)
