How to use site search

When I click on "site search" I come to this page - I used to come to a page where I could list the topic I wanted to search. So, how do I get back there, or does it no longer exist?
Thanks, Jan

Rather than mess with the built-in site search, you'll probably be happier taking advantage of the information in these threads:

FAQ: How do I search WebmasterWorld? [webmasterworld.com]
FAQ: Additional Search Tools for WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]

hi, i'm new here and i'm sorry i don't understand what is this avoidance about using a built-in site search engine. why is it a "mess" to use an onsite search engine? all i want to do today is to find out on these forums if anyone has discussed how to do a page redirect, for example. how do i simply find this out? the complicated search instructions here will simply end up with me just posting a redundant question rather than just being able to find the answer here. it would be nice to just have a seach box and just go.
thanks.

i agree with this point. love the site - but it needs to have this function.

There are quite a few issues with having a built in site search on a site as massive as WebmasterWorld, here's a post where Brett points out a couple concerns [webmasterworld.com]. Keep in mind, the index was already too huge in 2003! Imagine how much larger it is today!

I can't find the thread, but the point has been made that rather than trying to be a decent search engine and a decent forum, WebmasterWorld is going to focus on being the best forum it can be.

It is a little work to get those site search tools installed, but once you have them, you are set.* The engines do an excellent job of quickly indexing new threads.

*Well, except for searching the supporter's forum. I still hope that search function is on it's way. :)

Huh, now that's an interesting thread to read. So, probably just ignore everything I said above. lol :)

this is a great forum and I hope it will continue to stay that way.

Without a good forum-search option users will keep asking the same questions, waisting other peoples time and cluttering the forum.

remember that old fashion thing: nettiquette. before you post go search. But when there is no search...?

perhaps create a poll to gauge the need for search on the site?
