I mis-posted today in so far as I intended to send a sticky and much to my embarrasment I actually posted the message. I tried to remove the post by using owner edit and upload just a blank page but it wouldnt take it. I then edited by adding a few words to the page and all was then OK. Is there any reason why the owner should not be able to totally remove a post when he wants. Also why is there a time limit on edits?

The edit function is great for spelling mistakes, but removing a post entirely can lead to all sorts of confusion. If you ever want a Post removed send a sticky mail to the forum moderator and they will see what they can do. :)

FAQ: How long can I edit my own messages? [webmasterworld.com]

Deleting a post could change the meaning of a thread. Editing a post after a certain amount of time can do the same. Therefore, no deleting, and only a limited edit time. :)

A forum that I run allows deletes within 5 minutes of starting a post or creating a thread as long as no one has replied.

biggest problem with a case like that is...

scinario. user "A" posts a question, user "B" wants to help and starts typing out a very long detailed answer.

Shortly after posting user A finds the answer on his own and removes the post and subsequently the thread. At the same time user B is sweating blood and tears writting the defnative meaning of life. Finaly he/she clicks post and gets a 404 page not found. Not much fun.
