Folks,
The automted sign-up for WebmasterWorld does not allow spamcop.net.

This is a mistake. Spamcop.net is a fabulous resource that filters spam and saves its email subscribers from wasting hours of time deleting spam.

Spamcop.net is a valid domain.

What's it going to take to get Webmaster World to allow me to join with my spamcop.net email address?

Does it use a 'challenge-response' mechanism to check email addresses?

Some sites do not support addresses that use that.

Thanks.

My understanding is that the management do not allow "anon" email addresses hotmail.com, spamcop.net etc

I personally use SpamCop and it is very good. What you need to do is send all emails from your regular email address(es) to your SpamCop box, and then redirect them there to another account which is the one you actually read

Works fine, I cut 650 email a day to 60

SpamCop.net is NOT an ANONYMOUS email domain. You have to pay $$ to get an account with SpamCop.net, and in that sense, it's just as non-anonymous as an account at SBC.

What is weird is that Webmaster World did let me sign up with ... wait for it ... my Netscape.net email address, which in fact very much IS an anonymous email account.

So, that's not it.

I really think that the Webmaster World email sign up automated script sees the word "spam" and freaks out.

Like you, I'm a devoted user of my spamcop.net account. I like it so much, I no longer maintain any other paying email account.

C'mon Webmaster World. Please fix this and allow spamcop.net users to join.

You can change your mail address in the preferences once you are signed up. I don't know if any blacklist applies there as well.

As form Spamcop, I had some severe trouble with them last year, repeatedly putting our mailserver onto their blacklist because one of our OWN employees used their service and - proveable - THEY screwed up. I actually had to threaten them with a lawyer to get us unlisted again! Cost me a lot of time, work AND credibility with some customers.

Since then, they are a no-go for me!

Moderator Hat is Off - This is me talking as me.

Spamcop.net is a fabulous resource that filters spam and saves its email subscribers from wasting hours of time deleting spam.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld!

Got your flamesuit on?

The reporting and enforcement end of the spamcop service consists of a bunch of morons who go around purporting to be doing some good but turn out to cause nothing but trouble and mayhem for innocent users who have nothing to do with anything.

If you think Spamcop actually does some good, try running an ISP.

It's a pain in the ass, and I'm glad BT has the balls to ban them.

Please fix this and allow spamcop.net users to join.

Please don't. In my experience, anyone involved with the reporting and enforcement end of those people has an agenda to push on the rest of the world and it comes out in every damned thing they say.

from what I've seen, bakedjake is correct - there are some real issues with these people and what they do and the effects it has on millions of innocent users.

When it comes to spamcop, it's too easy to report an e-mail which is not actually spam, too. But, defining spam is another issue.

It isn't specific to spam cop. It is part of a general block on anything with the word "spam" in it. 9 out of 10 emails with the word spam in them have various problems associated with them (most of all, they are high maintenace for us .... autoresponders, challenge response systems, etc...). We eliminated a ton of work for us when we put in the block on "spam".
