I tend to think the only reason Brett has for banning those are due to some problems the boards are having and nothing to do with politics.

it is temporary - but there is no other way that I know of to stop the problems being caused at this time.

I've been having a huge comment spam problem recently, which I usually deal with by blocking entire IP address blocks. I'm now blocking all users in China & India, since I've never seen a legitimate user from either country and that's where 90% of my spam comes from.

Did you block access to the forum from IPs that resolve to those cTLDs or just emails during registration?
