Welcome

You'll do well to start reading the in the library section of each forum. There are pearls of wisdom dating back 5 years.

Greetings all!

I've been lurking here for over a month, absorbing tons of info, and I'm glad to have finally joined.
I've been in the auto repair industry for 20 years, and a repair shop owner for five, and now I'm jumping into ecommerce with an auto parts sales website. Webmaster World has also inspired me to consider starting some affiliate sites for other car-related themes. I'm forming an empire within a niche I passionately like, in accordance with much-repeated advice here. Thence my screen name.
Thanks to everyone at Webmaster World for all your contributions. This has opened worlds to me! Thanks in particular to Brett and the 26 steps article, it was a link to that that first brought me here: I was hooked from the start!
I wanted to ask something too. Is it ever appropriate to mention being in the auto industry (when the context is right), or even start a thread about the particular issues of the online auto parts business, or should every post be entirely wigetized? I don't want to make extra work for the moderators as I learn the norms here.

Automan: my impression is that as long as you don't list specific URLs (or thinly cloaked "autothingie.com" stuff), you may certainly state "I'm in the auto parts business, and I have this situation"; or "I have 3 interlinked sites, one that relates to GMC OEM parts 1980-1985; one for aftermarket GMC parts 1980-1990; and one for specialty/off-road race GMC parts for 1988-1992; and this is my problem" without upsetting anyone's applecart.

If this isn't the case, I'm sure someone will say so eventually....

Welcome to WebmasterWorld!

I wouldn't be quite as specific as vkaryl's example ... but saying what business you're in is fine, if you want. You'll find, however, that you're a very small minority here if you do. Nearly everyone "wigitizes" their posts and it's probably a good idea to do so ... it allows discussions to be more general and helpful to everyone.
