Advertisements increase the noise to content ratio on the site. Ads are already being served on the upper right column. I think that is about as much as I would tolerate.

1) AdSense does not do well in forums.

2) This forum is supported by subscriptions. I, for one, subscribe because I find everything so valuable. And I might be somewhat less inclined to support a site that had lots of advertising.

So all in all, I think it might benefit Webmasterworld more not to have AdSense. It's hard for me to know without knowing how many subscribers they have and how many hits they have.

You know the paranoia that people have on adsense.
Many of them will know it will make money for WW and start clicking the ads just to support WW even though Brett says not to do it. So after 45 days when Brett is ready to receive the first check, Google will send a notice saying "due to fraudulent clicks on your site, your adsense account has been cancelled...". So free advertising for Google and Brett will get nothing. I think that's why there is no adsense on here. ;)

<Edit>
Correction for Brett's name. He has two Ts in his name..

We don't take advertisements on the forum site. We want you to be able to trust the info you find here as unbiased as possible. We have worked hard to earn and keep that trust - not always attaining that goal, but I think on the whole, it has been a successful policy.

Now I know why. I've been reading posts here in webmasterworld for months now and find this site very helpful to me as a new webmaster. It's easy to navigate and find information I need.

I just wonder what else can I read inside the subscribed forum that is not covered here in the public forum.

most of the valuable information I learned here was from the supporters forum.

Unfortunately all the big news posts are pushed into the supporters forum. So although you won't really get more help in regards to problems/ideas the big news features regarding the major developments on the web are always in the Supporters Forum.

As for Adsense on Webmasterworld - firstly think of what ads would show ... SEO after SEO after SEO after SEO after SEO after SEO .... who would be clicking on those?

All credibility of this forum would be lost when it had "Top 10 rankings GUARANTEED" written at the top of it ...

Definitely more info in there, but long before it existed many people simply donated to the site because they got so much out of it. There is an awful lot of free info in the forums and even if there was nothing in the supporters forums, the subscription fee isn't much to ensure WW keeps operating, growing, and expanding ad free an unbaised.

If ya go to conferences, supporters usually get a discount that makes the subscription fee even less or free depending on the discount for the conference.

For fun, use the Google preview tool to see the ads that would show in threads - there is variety in them, surprisingly enough, not just SEO SEO SEO SEO.

I tried AS on an SEO site in the early days, had to pull them due to the type of services being offered.. ;-)

Not to mention - I think adsense works best with the 'unknowledgeable masses' that surf the net. I'd be very weary of clicking any adsense in a forum dedicated (among other things) to learn how to work with adsense/adwords/affiliate marketing :).
