Just wondering if there was a lot of good knowledge on SEO issues in the supporter forum compared to here.

IE secrets, tips, tricks not found in the main forums.

Thanks!

What you take from the supporters forum is up to you.. much like the free forums actually. They keyword (pun intended) is TAKE

this whole site is free (apart from supporters) by joining you are supporting the fact that you have may have learned something and are willing to participate in the community.. it's not all about SEO it about the taking part and the interacting with folks.

would you prefer ads in your face? (e.g. support WebmasterWorld by clicking here..)
a: would you click (and if you did would you think that by one click you were entitled to all? )
b: doesn't everyone here just hate an "in your face" ad?

times have changed in the respect that we are older an wiser as to what we we click on.. but times HAVE NOT changed in respect to the fact that "there's no such thing as a free lunch"

Well hows that for a cryptic answer ;)

I understand the contribution part. One should always seek to contribute, in some fashion, to a place of value. However, there is a forum only open to contributors.

So I guess my question is: Is there anything special going on inside there. For example, maybe a question might be answered faster, there are more deep discussions, it is a close community where people will get to know you and vise versa, etc.

Better signal to noise ratio -IMHO.

(and that warm and fuzzy feeling of being a supporter.)

If you are looking for the "trade secrets", they aren't much more likely to be shared in the SF than on the public side.

What you do get is a lot more focus because there are a lot less threads started. That means it's much easier to find good solid info than on the free side, it's simply a matter of volume.

There's probably just as much, if not more worthwhile news and help on the free side, it's just harder to sort it out because of how many threads there are.

It also seems to me that threads in the SF tend to stay on target more.

If you have limited time to read and post, it's probably worth it just on that basis.

ah ok. Yes, my head hurts from all the threads. :D

The main problem I think is mounds of conflicting thoughts compounded by 300 threads on the subject.

no, a well targeted ad ads value to a page just as it does a magazine, just as they do to the superbowl. An example: Powder Magazine rox, ski magazine sux. Powder magazine understands that skiers don't want ads for jeeps (maybe a $200 used subaru would be ok).
I always appreciate a well targeted ad.

I've been a supporter for a few months and now I already repent having paid only for 6 months instead of a full year!

Sorry to rain on your parade Brett but I think its dumbed down over the last 12 months. The cutting edge for me now seems to be in the Google News forum.

The supporters forum to me is just like another Google News forum, a bit slower. I don't find it to be anything to write home about, but then I didn't expect it to be. It's quite adequate and serves its purpose.

It maybe also depends on what business you're in (there are some nice SEO topics) and whether you're into the pubcons etc., a lot of the threads don't apply to me although I read what I can just in case it might one day. You also might get a *tiny* bit of advance notice on things like updates and news.

But it's a nice bonus for paying the subscription fee. Subscriptions help keep the site maintained and ad-free, and I'm grateful for that. I don't think you should see the Supporters Forum as *the* reason to subscribe, you might be disappointed.

I agree that it's more about supporting the whole forum than any special information. The membership has grown and there are more posts to skip so it's not quite as useful as it was in the very beginning. I once read every post in there and now it's just a fraction of that. It's still the first forum I always check however. And it's worth it to support the site and keep it ad-free.
