The Las Vegas Convention Center is right next to the Hilton. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for one hotel in Vegas to sit on 100 acres. I have been to Vegas many a time but not to that particular area. On the map, they are a bit of a distance apart. On the monorail, they are one station apart (ie there is a station for the Hilton and another one for the convention center).

I've done the entire strip in 4 inch stilettos, it's not THAT far.

On the map, they are a bit of a distance apart.

Allow for 15 minutes to walk from the LVCC to your hotel room in the Hilton - +/- depending on where the two endpoints are.

[cesweb.org...]

This map shows the Hilton's convention halls at the top left, not the hotel itself, which is attached to the halls.

I walked from the LV Hilton to the convention center yesterday. Here's the trick - if you're good at navigating through buildings, you can go almost directly from the Hilton to the convention center door-to-door. Literally, it's out the door at the Hilton, walk about 50 yards, and in the door at the convention center. It's that easy. Of course, once you're in the convention center or the Hilton, you have to hoof it quite a ways -- those are BIG buildings!

> I've done the entire strip in 4 inch stilettos, it's not THAT far.

That deserves some kind of award.

Very true - is it as bad as SES in Chicago? It was like 2 miles inside!

<That deserves some kind of award.>

For a normal person probably, lol, standard wear for me (and I'm not a show girl!). The only problem with Vegas is, if you leave me alone for 5 minutes I will have 2 new pairs of stilettos - the casino shops are quite enticing and I have a weakness! I think that's why I don't gamble though, I need it for shoes, lol.

A big fan of the Mark Burnett's Casino television show on FOX this summer, I just booked my room at the Golden Nugget . . . $59 a night. The reservation process was smooth and interesting . . . lots of options regarding shows and activities.

The Golden Nugget is downtown. Unless you have a car, it is a hassle getting to the convention center. The Strip runs somewhat North and South. Downtown is north of the Strip. The convention center is east of the Strip. The monorail runs along the east side of the Strip (and stops at the convention center). Local transit usually run along the Strip. Don't know if there is convenient bus service to the convention center from downtown. Taxi can be expensive. You can lose whatever saving you have with getting to the conference each day. If you shop around the net, you can get similar or better deals for a hotel on the Strip. Check out airfare and hotel deals.

If you haven't been to Vegas lately, bear in mind that some of the blocks are much bigger than your regular city blocks. For some hotels along the Strip, it may take you 10 to 15 minutes of walking from one hotel to the one next door. The main section of the road on the Strip is now 7 lanes of traffic going each way (ie 14 lanes in total). It is bumper to bumper traffic day and night. They have built several overpass walkways because the light will turn red well before you can get across to the other side. The sidewalk will be packed with people at night.

Opus, thank you. I changed my reservation to a hotel on the Strip for not much more. I'll visit downtown instead of staying there.

Ya, the Convention Center / Hilton is a major stop on the tramway, so it is easy to get anywhere on the strip.

NOTE: The early signup and payment period is over at 5pm eastern time today SEPT 16, 2004. That is to give the last minute folks time to register and complete the payment process.

crap...I think I missed it....how much more is it gonna be? $399...Hopefully $499...then perhaps I can still go. I wasn't sure yesterday.....am a little more inclined today but depending on how much it goes up I guess I'll have to decide.

I've been a parent for nearly 38 years. I'm STILL not grown up, and I don't ever plan to be! What a waste of time and fun....

Anybody come from Asia to attend this conference? Is that easy for getting VISA to america in business purpose for attending this conference?

Getting a visa to the US is probably tougher since 9/11. Poorer countries like India might be difficult because they fear that you won't leave. Muslim countries may also be difficult because they think you might be a terrorist.

Best to check with the US embassy in your country before signing up for the conference. The process can be lengthy. By the time you get the visa, the conference would have been over.

Getting a visa has a lot to do with your own background. If you are the average Joe, young, single, and female, your chances are very slim. If you are a well-to-do Chinese and of high position, you might get a visa to enter the US but won't get an exit visa to leave China.

I just found out abuot the conference and will probably attend. I noticed on the registration page that they have a "Coupon Code" box....is there a code out there that I should know about to discount the price of admission?

Sorry to sound like a cheapskate but I am trying to talk a couple other people into attending and price is a major issue. Thanks for your help and hope to see you in Vegas!

Just heard on the news tonight that they are having problems with the Las Vegas monorail. They shut it down twice in September and is still down. Hope they get the problems ironed out before the conference or else some of us will have to do some daily exercise.

Nuttakorn,

I know at least one person from HK who is coming but I don't recall his nationality. Several nationalities don't need a visa but can come under a Visa Waiver scheme.
