Posts need to be raised on other things other than reply frequency..

Number of replies not always equal to quality of post

It'd be nice if posts were at the top because of other reasons than just replies.

Sometimes I find myself replying to a post because I think it's important, not because I have anything worthwhile to say.

I too have nothing worthwhile to say or to add to this thread other than I think this deserves to be at the top so I will type a load of waffle to ensure it gets bumped up there :)

You guys are serious? Think about the logic of that for just a moment.

You spot a thread that is of high quality. In order to keep the thread on the active, you pollute it by posting "waffle" which in turn degrades the quality of the thread you wanted to see thrive in the first place?

Err... I think I made too subtle a joke... I posted a "me too" here on the thread because I agree with the sentiment by blaze (my post got deleted, which served me right!). I think that there have been several threads which have been dragged back to the top again by the original poster even when the conversation was naturally "dying-off" and that the issue had been covered in detail. Often the threads were to do with some of the "holy war" topics where there is a lot of conversation but rarely any debate or headway. Perhaps I'm exaggerating things a bit. Perhaps it's the chase to increase the post score too.

I sometimes check the recent posts thread and sort by date/number of messages to bump up and revive unanswered threads which have "fallen off" the list too quickly - even when I don't have much to add, but I feel that that's a different matter.

I notice that the post count has been disactivated, has this got something to do with it?

Some threads vanish instantly because there really is nothing to be said or debated.

Personally, if something is posted which is clear and authoritative and useful, why must it (almost by definition)fall off the active list immediately?

Quite often the posts at the top of the active lists are the one where people say silly things and are easily debated.

How about something where users can vote? (preferably with "onClick functionality" so we don't have to reload a web page in order to do it.

You can only vote once (versus a post, where you can reply many times!) and you have to be at least junior status to vote.

Preferably we'd just vote for the initial message and not the stuff that follows.
