'report problem post' button?

recently ive been noticing a few drive by spam type posts on the boards. i know the mods try to nuke them asap but a place this size they cannot get them all.

would it be possible to have a link for reporting spam - just to flag the post up for a forums mods to look at?

a very good one. However, sometimes continually mentioning a very minor problem, makes many people think there is a much larger problem.

Say you drive to work everyday and enjoy the nice grass and pretty flowers. Then one day, there are signs every interesection that say, "Rough roadway got you down? Report it here 555-1212".

You know what would happen? Studies have shown that within just six months of such signs going up, there are bills and procedures passed through local govt to "fix the rough road problem".

They have even tried this test on freshly paved roads that are perfect as they can be.

Some situation here - if you put up a sign that says, "report a problem post here", before you know it, the majority of the membership will think, "gosh, there are alot of problem posts over there.

Think about it. This is key issue to understanding consumer behavior. You can slap them in the face for months and they won't get it - but blow a feather their direction for a week and they will not only intimately understand what you are trying to say, they will also take action on it.

When you hit google from France ...they still do have this link ..and when you change to the "google in English "option ....
Maybe they think Europeans are less contentious than you guys in the states .... : ))..
Or maybe they'd like us to keep thinking that they give a rats ass ... : ))

Hey benihana, if you see something that needs attention, sticky the forum Mod and copy each of the Category Admins. Our staff is scattered all over the globe so there is almost invariably someone around to handle problem posts.

i guess my point is really a time issue - i often post from work and cannot always have the time to find a moderators sticky, compose message etc etc - much quicker to click one link.

when im at home its not an issue, and bretts post clarifies things pretty well.

Don't know about you, but I have yet to see a spam problem that wasn't fixed in a quarter of an hour at most. As Dave said, there is always a mod or admin around. And imagine what would happen when a forum gets spammed. The mods would get tons of messages in a few minutes signaling it. It would probably take them more time to delete (don't even think about responding to) all messages than to deal with the problem.

sinner_g - youre right, most get fixed pretty swiftly, just i ve noticed a few recently and thought it might ease the burden on the mods. purely academic now but my thought was once a post has been reported, the link would become inactive to prevent mods geting swamped :)
