are they auto-edited?

I've just posted a message with two links to the same domain. It has appeared with the domain names replaced with **** and still linking. Is this automatic? Perhaps would be better to also remove the linking: it's not useful for anybody a link to ****.com.
I'm not complaining about this. I'm curious ;)

I have also placed a link inside one of my posts and discovered that it auto-edited my post, however this has not happened before when adding links - other ones to the w3c have retained the domain for instance. Does the board auto edit .com addresses, but not .org?

It is case-by-case specific. When we get spammed by a company, website, or product more than a few times, we often put that product on the auto filter to stop the spamming.

Sometimes, those products may even be popular products or websites that bystanders such as yourselves, may be part of. However, if we detect that product or site owner is part of an astroturf (1) campaign, we don't hesitate to put it on the filter.

1 astroturf a fake "Grassroots" campaign [webmasterworld.com]. aka: a whisper campaign [webmasterworld.com].

ah. This explains why that day I posted a link to a Whois site and it got edited (automatically).
