Finding Time for WebmasterWorld

How do you do it?

I used to spend 8+ hours a day reading, answering questions and even asking questions on WW. However that has had to change since I moved to FL, I got a different job where I cant read here all day and when I get home my new wife wants my attention. She doesnt understand why I want to read a "Geek Board" as she calls it. How does everyone else work WW into their time to read everyday? Obviously we have the people who can do this because its part of their job, but alot of people here I would guess do the webmaster thing on the side at night after their real job and to some this is just a hobbie something they enjoy doing. We all have to find time. Maybe there is a feature or two that would help me figure out when I really need to be here and when I dont.

btw nice to see this turning into something really big for you Brett.

good to see you Knowles,

I often don't know how I find the time actually. Though I don't have a new wife or unrelated job. When I don't have time I mostly limit my reading to a few specific forums. When I have a little extra time I wander the boards more deeply.

But I want to read them all man!

I am trying to do that, PHP was what brought me to this place and its the only forum I really keep up on when I am here...

Working from home helps, but no matter how much I love WW we all have to work and earn our money.

I try to keep a little routine these days by spending the first half hour checking my sites are up and working correctly, browse through some of my favorite boards like PHP, Google News and Webmaster General.

Then I check for any new security issues at the Norton center after updating I then download all my SPAM with a few decent enquiries.

I then do my work, for lunch I may pop out. For an extra half hour during lunch I have another look at WW just to see if anything dramatic happening then its back to work.

Every few days I read WW for an hour maybe in the evening going into areas I never really visit much. But sometimes if I am stuck on a bit of code or trying something new I to Google an enter the following:

site:www.webmasterworld,com keyword

Nearly 80% of the time I find the answer I need. I then try to give back to others what I have learn't or pointing something out that I tried and came across that could help others in asimilar situation.

Its impossible to read every board and work full time, if you did that then after a while you would end up disliking this great site.

I now limit my time at WW to one hour per day. When the work is all done.

For me reading WW is part of my job as SEO. Every new bit of knowledge helps you becoming better than your competitors.

If I couldn't partly during work I'd invest more time on WW and sleep a few minutes less. Imho it's worth it.

>> there isn't enough time in a day

Boy is that the truth - especially over the last 6 months. It seems like an explosion of new threads and I've given up on trying to keep up. I've also been buried with work which is good for the company coffers but bad for WebmasterWorld time. Somedays I have stop in because I feel like I'm having WebmasterWorld withdrawal!

It's the withdrawal symtoms that keep bringing me back ;-)

WebmasterWorld is an ongoing web symposium. The amount of educational browsing I do has been cut 90% since I found this place. It is an extremely cost effective tool to help me remain current in my business. I can not afford to not find the time.

I made my new boss agree to an hour a day of reseach time. I also read on my lunch and a good hour or so when I go home.

This is still down from about 6 hours a day at my last job. The main difference is that the other employees I work with now are also WW members and we send each other important threads and thing we might miss otherwise, so it works out.

I also have no wife or girlfriend to worry about, so it is easier for me to fit time in outside of work.
