Boston to Florida to Ginger, these updates are mentioned all over the marketting/SEO web, as well as discussed rapidly here at WebmasterWorld.

When I first joint WebmasterWorld, I had no idea what the "Boston" update was, I always thought it was some kinda WebmasterWorld pubcon (hey, I was new!), but until I read some threads on them , I came to know what they really meant.

The updates are even mentioned in press releases, blogs, news sites and so many others.

Now my question is - Who's the person to name all these updates?
Do these names come from some Google worker or is it made by some SEO who found it.

It started as an idea here at WebmasterWorld, Sid. We named the first, and have been ever since. tedster gives a bit of history right here:

It is an interesting and odd progression.....not to mention some great PR for WW! :)

I see a day when Google will actually catch hold and start naming the updates itself....but probably not for several months ;)

Nah, they couldn't do it. They don't spot the updates as quick as WebmasterWorld members. ;)

I would bet that they have their own internal names, or at least revision number as a tag that we do not know about as well. A lot of companies like to keep that stuff secret. Motorola has names for their internal development projects and updates, as does Microsoft. They need a way internally in staff meetings, et. al to refer to projects. Of course, like at M$, it is eventually leaked.
