This is probably the most unique site I've built yet. It breaks all the molds of promotion. Some of the over riding factors long before promotion:

o Site usability: I have tried to lay out the site to be as user friendly as possible.

o Loading issues: The homepage will remain under 30k total size. It needs to be fast. I may squeeze it down even a bit more by breaking the homepage apart by category. Tough call. It would mean users would have to click one more time to get into the forums, but the load speed would be vastly improved for the front page.

o Server: I feel I'm on one of the fastest servers available (dual p3's and not overloaded). Most scripts are executing in under 1 second, and download/connection to the user beginning in under 2 seconds. All the studies say that is what users want.

o HTML format: You'll notice that just about everywhere you go on the board outside of forms, you navigate by html files. That allows browsers to cache files cutting dl time.

o The C-Net 64 BBS format: Everyone seems to think Ultimate Bulletin Board started this style of board. Did you know I had a BBS system in 1985 running on a Commodore 64 that was very similar in action and appearance? Even though the c64 C-Net BBS was faster and had dozen more features (ain't that a hoot), users clearly prefer posts and responses in the same message.

o Listening to users and watching logs to see what they do. Again, this site is here for you and should be easy to use and navigate. Never have I had a system where it was more important to me than to be 100% in line with what the users want.

o User privacy: I will be bringing online a new email format where you can specify, "Hide my email address, but allow users to send me email". That system will present users with a form to email you, and then the system will do the emailing - never exposing your email address to email harvesters.

o Liability issues: My one main concern is my liability due to the fact that it is users who are creating the content. I will be watchful, but if you ever seen anything you feel is slanderous or libelous, please drop me an emergency email.

- Promotion: I am going to do very little promotion other than to encourage word-of-mouth and occasional postings in usenet with the url in a sig file.

- Moderation and Tolerance: Moderators clearly understand that user respect is paramount to our cause here. We will never delete a post that is within the guidelines of the board without first contacting the poster. I feel very strongly that if you hold people in a higher place, they more often than not, will come through for you. All the moderators here, are not only knowledgeable in their area, they are also users themselves and understand making people feel welcome and at ease is an utmost priority.

Well, that wraps up my approach to this system. It is fundamentally here to serve us. Anything I can do to further than, feel free to add comments here.
