Hi Guys,

Im trying to upgrade and take new certification paths and I would like to speak with others about it (trends, good, bad...), unfortunately I couldnt find any place to do it... so my question to the mods and brett: dont you think a certification forum would be a good idea?

Regards
Steven

Certification for what, exactly? What are you trying to become certified in? I don't think there's any industry accepted certifications at this point relevant to WebmasterWorld.

Some may even argue that certifications are mostly useless, anyways. At least in this game. :)

woow bakedjake that was fast ;) 15 secs?

How can you be recognised in the industry as a professional webmaster? international? only with CIW are there other programms?

The idea would be to talk about tests, preparation guides, etc... everything involved with it-certification not only as webmaster, but cisco, microsoft, linux, etc.

Had my finger on the recent posts button. ;-)

By creating good sites, not taking a test. :)

everything involved with it-certification

Not speaking for anyone but myself here, but I would understand that topic to be outside the scope of WebmasterWorld.

The unfortunate problem with vendor certifications are that they are just that. An MCSE or CCIE may know how to properly configure a Microsoft or Cisco network, but may have trouble with interoperability or other such things. Vendor certifications are much different than industry certifications (such as Professional Engineer), in that they are specific to a vendor's equipment.

My point is that there are no professional certifications that I know of that pertain to what we do here.

GCOE -G oogle Certified Optimizer Engineer, would be a nice vendor certification for google :)

By creating good sites, not taking a test. :)

I was going to say the same, but then I didnt :)

The problem in some parts of europe is that your value is based on your papers (CV, Certification) and not as I think is the case in america that your value is based on experience (without certification). Thats why I think is important to talk with other people about this.

In france for example as I know your are highly valued in your hobbies.

Yes I know it doesnt has to do much with the role as a webmaster and ecommerce itself but I do think WebmasterWorld would be a nice place to talk with other people about it. just a random thought ;)

Thanks for your reply

Maybe Brainbench comes with an exam for SEO at some stage. I have contacted my MVP Program Manager there and also emailed CIW just to see if either of them have any plans in this direction.

:-)

I am till now both a Brainbench MVP and a CIW Associate.

IMHO, the industry changes too fast. They'd have to change their test every week!

I'd take the test just to see the questions, and hopefully learn something new...
