Hey,
I badly want to make it to Pubcon V. I am not sure how difficult it will be to get visa, any one else from India planning to go?

Jaski,

considering India is at the forefront of emrging technology centres around the world, I would have thought NO major issue should arise trying to get a visa.

just be careful explaining the 250 people getting drunk in a pub type conference...

a print out of the itinray and previous reports of conferences should do the trick...

Shak
Thanks for the encouragement .. really needed :)

The only things that go against me are

1) Young male 26 :)
2) Never been to any where outside India yet.

However with some preparation I may have a fairly strong case.

I should get myself a passport first ;)

I decided to apply for a passport when I was 18. I went to the Bangalore office, paid Rs.25 and got the application form.

I filled up the first few pages, stuck some mugshots and wasted 20 minutes of my life. And guess what? It asks me to fill up the same stuff in triplicate! Sheesh!

I will check the passport office again - maybe they have a better process now!

Same old process .. though fee is much better .. at Rs 1000 now ;) .. I am getting it done for my parents these days. Got mine 5 years ago was Rs 300 then.

For documents you need
1) 10 copies of passport size photograph
2) Proof of address (ration card/bank passbook etc.)
3) Proof of date of birth (10th certi)

Ok guys you forgot

4) the bribe to the police station to verify your application ;)

And a tip for you guys giving your photos. You know the guys in there are real butchers. Carry a small Plastic bag to keep your photos in.

Oh I could go on and write a whole do's and don't book for visiting Passport Office :)

It's amusing that technology has not caught up with passport issue in India. My first passport was an "India-Ceylon" red passport when I went on a school trip in 1969 and I have no memory of the process. For my first international passport in 1973, the only recollection was that I had to go to the state secretariat to get a signature from someone of a certain rank, and a statement that I had never worked, hence no tax liability. I don't remember supplying 10 photos, though. In those days, we could only take US$100 out of the country officially. :-)

Wasn't it some Persian invader who said "Dilli door ast"?

Of all the immigration officers I've dealt with (Indian passport holder here) the Brits are the most likely to be convinced that you going to London for a pissup is a genuine reason to give you a visa. :)

I'm seriously considering going all the way from Hong Kong.

Never mind Pubcon - now that I can't get to it - :)

Is anyone on WW going to be *IN* India (Mumbai, to be more precise) in early October? I'd like to meet some of you.
