Another newbie here in this forum that I found during a search in google. I interestingly found seperate forum here on Perl, CSS, HTML, JavaScript but no Java Forum here?

Waiting for a response. :)

Welcome to the board!

Having a separate forum is usually generated by a certain amount of member interest and discussion activity, and to be honest, I can barely remember seeing any discussions about Java.

You mean Java, right? Not Javascript?

If you have a Java related question, you might try to ask it in the HTML and Browsers forum. That is where most of the (few) threads on that are located. Anyways, lots of the heavy users here check the recent posts (across all forums), so a well-chosen thread title should get the right people's attention.

Big difference between Java & Javascript! We have lots of posts in the HTML forum on Javscript, some going into quite a bit of detail.

Marcia, I know the difference between Java and JS, just noticed that if and when we have Java related questions, they often are in that forum.

I can't remember ever seeing Java discussions. I guess that's why we don't have a forum for it. :)

I must admit I didn't remember any, but did a quick site search for 'java applet'. Although it still returns lots of JS topics (many people seem to have trouble with the difference), there are some threads, most of which are either in HTML and Browsers or in Website Technology Issues.

There have been a fair few, I suppose you need to have a 'special interest' in Java to notice them. Applets don't get talked about much because (imho) people don't use them much these days. The threads there have been about Java here are usually concerned with server side (JSP etc).

I think its because of Java's market space and the general WebmasterWorld demographic (if there is one). I don't think there's too many people involved in sites or applications for large financial corporates here.

There are, however, a fair few members who know their stuff when it comes to Java so you shouldn't have any problems getting answers to any questions you might have.

I do wish people would stop assuming anything to with Java must be about applets. Its almost as annoying as people posting about Java when they mean JavaScript.

Not sure if that was directed at me, but thought I would still remark that I only used the search for 'java applet' because I thought that would clear all the JavaScript related stuff (which it did not, but it was worth a try).

Sorry Sinner_G, that wasn't directed at you at all. Just a personal beef of mine :-)

To find the Java discussions on WebmasterWorld you're much better off doing a search on JSP.

This is a very active site I guess. :) However, don't you use emoticons here?

And well, for Java discussions I have several sites among whom JavaRanch and JDiscuss are my favorites. Just wondered how many people work in core HTML/CSS/JavaScript with oterh web development guidelines. I thought earlier that most of the web developers work mainly with ASP, JSP, PHP etc. But I was wrong as a significant portion is out of the trend.

I'll enjoy moving around here. :)

Welcome to the board Ashikuzzaman,

Pure Java discussions should go in the technology forum. One of the mods in there works with JSP. When we see a Java thread thats where we will move it. Applet threads on the other hand are usually about how to implement them in the browser, so thats why you will find those in browsers.
