Is there a new post count schedule?

(Has the number of posts/title changed again?)

Has there been another change or am I asleep at the switch?

(Thought I had gotten out of the junior member thing a couple of months ago.)

As reference: [boardnet ]

It sure has. Just after I finally made it to Senior Member I back once again as a Preferred Member.

Looks like Brett put the bar some higher again.

See message 5 at: Post 101 - Full Member? [webmasterworld.com]

Could have been worse, you could have gone back to being a "New Member" ;)

<delirium>

Shane, there is a rumor PostCount is going the way PageRank. To see green on the BrettBar (only available for Opera) you need other members to link to threads you started. So, some members will still show as newbies well after 7 k posts and others will show as seniors right after the first post.

Macguru,

Do the links have to be "on topic"? Can we do reciprocal linking?

And, of course, the $65,000,000,000,000 question: When does Brett update the BrettRank?

Ya, we up the ante from time-to-time. I like to keep it as a rough percentage of total members.

Cloaked post counts? :) Maybe we'll need a BrettBar to see our status. I could use something else taking up real estate at the top of my browser... ;)

Ha! No post counts and unknown thresholds.

Double-blind!

Get your tally sheets out next to your computer to count your posts. But can you remember your post count? :)

Now that I've had some time to think, I think that's a really bad excuse... and removing the post count was a really bad idea.

1. How am I supposed to know if someone is a brand new member so I can welcome them properly?

2. Obviously most members liked having the total post count visible. So, are you developing for your own amusement, or for the benefit of the visitors?

3. If you're so concerned about saving bandwidth, then why don't you get rid of the font tags?

4. What happened to the little graphic so I knew which threads I've participated in?

Just my two cents :)

And I know the graphic is there for new threads... but not for threads from earlier today

Change to Member Status:
1 - 5 posts, Member Status = "Welcome Me!"

;)

Poor me, here I thought I was going blind when the post counts disappeared... Good to know I'm not going blind, crazy maybe, but not blind.

Even though I'm new as far as posting goes, I try to be a good neighbor and welcome new folks when I see 'em, so how *will* we know brand new posters?

Not a terrible idea really, you can still see who is senior members etc.

Ive never really been a total post counter but I know a few people that will be sad to see it go!

I think we should just all take TabkeGuy's advice.

So: if you're really into Tabke-watching as a sport, I would check in once a day to see what forums have been switched, forget who's TR (TabkeRank) counter has been TR zeroed and maybe to read 2-3 threads. Browse a little while, post, and then come back the next day. Find something fun to do at night besides poring over every last thing that Tabke-Guy (or whoever) posts on WebmasterWorld. You'll feel better, I promise.

: )

Now I am confused:

Does full member mean they have more posts than a senior member, which is clearly less than mod or admin, but a preferred member is above a full member?

Oh no, mod and admin are mod and admin, so a senior member has done fewer posts than...

Ahhh, who cares anyway?

Is the comment of more value than this one or does it make you smile?

A welcome me is a great idea. I still remember my first welcome like it was Yesterday (twice actually). It was Marcia, no perhaps fathom, or I think it was Brett? Anyway, it was nice and made me feel at home :)

Well, I guess I am at home.

I second the 'welkom me' cat. 'New member' is up to 20 or more or so, that's not specific enough.

Post count in profile is just fine to me :)

I'm thinking it would be nice if new members could be getting welcomes beyond just the first post. Doing a bit of research, I see 24 posts makes a Newb & 25 a Jr.

I'll admit I was in the habit of only offering a welcome on the first post or 2. Maybe part of the reasoning is this will make us more friendly, making sure everybody gets a welcome.

I found this thread because I just ran into the the "Welcome" quandary myself.

I don't care about post counts otherwise, but some sort of flag for a newcomer's first 5 posts or so would be nice... Five "Welcomes" is nice, but 25 might seem patronizing.

For now, I'll be digging into profiles for the first 25 posts of new members, I guess, and that would seem to *not* save bandwidth...

I propose either adding a "Welcome" flag of some sort, or lowering the bar for "Junior" to six posts or thereabouts...

haha, Shane, you've got to laugh at the fact that we've been here for years and are now Junior Members ;) I might actually be concerned if I were out in the world as an independent SEO. But in the future, when I likely will be, I'll have to come up with a couple of hundred more posts.

until then...
quality not quantity, the old mantra remains true.

I was just replying to a post by a New Member, it took all of five seconds to click on his/her profile and discover the true post count. So I see this as a non-problem.
