"<snip>
They say they're looking for a webmaster to build them "site, traffic and sales...". But the fact that I didn't reply to them and got nearly same message again makes me think they do it in an automated manner (spam, in other words). The sender's user names were "snip" and "snip". Anyone to clarify?

[edit reason] snipped to protect the alleged. [/edit]
I got a single solicitation to do a job, not repeated. The offer clearly involved going over to the dark side, given the field.
But there was no reason to expect me to be interested, a look at my site would show clearly that it is a hobby site. I have never posted anything showing any interest in the dark side. So I must assume that it was part of a mass mailing. Delted as soon as I got it, so I cannot send it to Admins for examination.
I'd offer that the definition is up to you. If you feel you're being spammed then you should take action. If you feel it was a polite inquiry which didn't bother you, then leave it be.
I've had several of these as well but I always try to be lenient and assume the best.
I class it as spamm if the sender is sending the mail for profit, i.e. trying to sell something.
I think we all need to think of a line and know when it has been crossed.
Mack.
It never dawned on me that he would think I was planning to charge him for it until I received a rather chilly response! I had to explain that I was willing to do it free to help a fellow WebmasterWorld member.
He was able to solve the problem without my help, and I have not since stickied anyone offering to help them with a problem.
Usually get forwarded to admin (although the ones ive received have been obvious spam).
What I found amusing is that most of the have been SEO and / marketing services spam!
Somehow I question the abilities of someone who sends marketing spam to a member called "marketing guy" with "marketing" listed in his profile on a "web marketing" forum.... ;)
Mardi, I never thought that people might consider that you are pitching your services when you are offering help! I think ill word my stickys a bit more carefully in the future! :)

Scott maybe those guys were venting out their marketing frustration on you ;)
On a more serious note :-
repeated sticky mail
That is Spam for me. One off requests I can tolerate :)
Personally, im perfectly fine with members stickying me if I post about a problem, or even perhaps mention in the passing that Im heading a certain direction but dont have the skills.
Even existing members stickying me on the off-chance im interested in what they are proposing is cool too - made quite a few contacts that way.
That, IMHO, is what being in a community is all about - yes, it's subtle marketing, but it's targetted and more often than not its just a polite enquiry or offer of assistance.
But getting sticky's offering web marketing services from a member with no posts - that's just spam.
At the end of the day, if I was in the market for any services that ever likely to be spammed at me, then im most likely going to look into giving an exisiting - and contributing - member the business, and not some random shmoe.
Scott :)
I've reported a few obvious spams, though I've received a few incomprehensible stickies that I've just deleted...
I receive a lot of sticky spam!
They stick at my fingers!
They stick within my machine!
They stick within my mail servers!
If i throw them out the window or into the trash, they mostly come back after a while telling me that they are poor africans and need help to transfer money ... sticky ... or that my *** is to small ... sticky ... or that i should submit to 3 bio search engines ... sticky ... or that mortgage loans are low as hell ... sticky ... or that i need a smaller digital camera ... or ... or ... or ...
Glad, i never received any sticky spam through my WebmasterWorld mail box, yet.
:-)
