Hello All!

I am new to this site and I am already quite impressed. There's an awful lot of information to soak up, and I have benefited greatly. Hopefully I will be able to contribute as well.

I couldn't help notice that there is no java forum. Are there any plans for this at some point? Any demand?

Thanks.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld!

Hm, there are no plans that I can think of offhand. Though, I'm not the bloke that comes up with new forum ideas - it's really community demand, I think, that drives it.

You might try our site search [webmasterworld.com] for java I know there have been at least a few discussions in the past, that had something to do with java. :)

Hope you enjoy the forums.

I'm sure there are plenty of Java proponents and practitioners in the membership, and plenty of others who have strong views to the contrary. I'd suggest just post Java questions/discusions in the 'closest' forum, and see the reaction (or ask the moderator first if you are unsure). That post may be the catalyst to stimulate the demand.

Hi rooshine and welcome.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be enough demand here for a java forum - I take it we're talking server-side here? I think its probably because of the market space for server side java - it tends to be mainly a corporate thing. People tend to use ASP and PHP much more here. Also some people seem to have a deep dislike of java which I don't quite understand the reasons for. Bad experiences in the past maybe when it had a reputation for being slow compared to native code.

When the perl/php board was called server side scripting that was the obvious home for java questions, but there really isn't one now.

There's 3 members I can think of off the top of my head who do use Java though...

Hola and welcome to WebmasterWorld.
JAVA? Only in the morning (you had to expect that).

WebmasterWorld is maturing slowly. The reality of splitting up the script forum (PERL, PHP) into two seperate forums is just now beginning to come about. I suspect there will need to be a bit more interest/discussion on JAVA related topics before WebmasterWorld makes the move to provide it its own forum.

BUT - that shouldn't keep you from bringing up your questions and providing solutions. Even though I don't use (yet) I'd love to see more of it around.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I've noticed that java often inspires interesting "conversation." People generally love it or hate it. I've done a search here and founding some interesting debates.

I've done some server-side java for smaller clients, but generally you are right. They tend to favor PHP and sometimes asp.

Looking forward to contributing. Thanks again for the welcome!
