Congrats on being the first to spot this. I've been periodically checking the rank, hoping to be the one to post this topic.

The alexa rankings are based on the average from the past three months, so it takes a while for increases in traffic to be reflected in a site's rank.
Not to mention more hits than the NFL. How's that grab ya?
Interesting that Alexa was once the butt of negative critiques, spyware accusations, and bot disallows... until we started ranking high - LOL
They are #15 - I think they are safe for now. lol
keyplyr, the change came when Alexa started to share this data with us last fall. Everyone else such as Aol, the search engines, MSN, telco's, and the large isp's are keeping that traffic data for themselves. Alexa opened the gate on it, and we now are privy to the best available traffic rankings on the net. The kicker, is that the data set quality is only going to get better.
I would like to see them share even more - such as site referral data. It brings up and interesting question about the public nature of the internet, the backbone, and traffic.

That's what we use Hitwise for over here in the UK. They track users at ISP level and share data with subscribers by market share. Because this is based on a much larger sample as a % of the whole, the figures are much more accurate.
It costs though - anywhere up to £20k per year!
Perhaps the Alexa figures tell us something about PR, and the worth of PR to the user (as opposed to its worth to Google as part of their algorithm)!
I have to add this place is an excellent resource for all things related to web design, marketing and development :)

I don't wish to be negative but I am wondering if there is an inaccuracy: Several months ago there were big messages on WebmasterWorld about how helpful the Alexa data is, and about how it is possibly the best source of popularity of sites on the net.
- So how many WebmasterWorld subscribers (like me) when they read that, visited Alexa (first time for me) and got the monitoring tools?
My question is: would the WebmasterWorld rank be skewed if a large proportion of WebmasterWorld subscribers got the monitoring tool. People like me have WebmasterWorld as their default browser page.
Anyway, this is a great time for us, and a good thread. If ya'll want to debate alexa yet again - start a new thread.
I am interested to know how many unique users visited your site with the Alexa toolbar. This could give us some idea of the accuracy of the sample size.
We are now at 7,500 on Alexa. Still only PR4 :(
This is great news...for the most part. Things happen so fast here these days, and there are so many new threads that it is hard to keep up-to-date on what is what. Amazingly, however, the quality of posting (and therefore posters) has really stayed quite high even with the increase (props to all of the mods for making this the reality).
Again, congrats to all of the greta people that make this forum what it is!
