just a quick question about SE and Dir in France and any list you guy are aware of to help a future website (seem to remember a list around here - anyone can point me to it? is it still valid)?
Capital (french mag) did a 'paper' on G and they said they had 70%+ of the french market is this right? what are the other SE's? Voila.fr, wanadoo...?
Any forum half as good as WebmasterWorld that you french guys are hanging round? WRI? Any other?
which gives these numbers:
1 – Google.fr and Google.com, and oters french version : ~54-56%
2 - Yahoo! ~12-14%
3 – Voilà-Wanadoo ~10-12%
4 - MSN ~5-7%
5 - AOL ~4-6%
6 - Lycos ~2-3%
7 - Altavista ~1%
8 - Nomade ~1%
I also checked some of my own stats for a presentation I did a while ago, and found these numbers:
Google.fr ~ 68%
Yahoo.fr ~ 10%
Wannadoo.fr ~ 9%
MSN.fr ~ 5%
AOL.fr ~ 4%
Seems to fit with the 2003 numbers? Don't know if much has changed other than Google taking a even slice of the market?
If you follow this link you will see a list of the top 10 by market share in 2005.

3) Wanadoo/Voila - 4.5%
4) MSN - 2.9%
5) AOL - 2.5%
6) Free - 1%
7) Altavista - 0.5%
8) Tiscali - 0.4%
9) Lycos - 0.3%
10) Club-Internet 0.3%
"OTHERS" make up the remaining - 0.6%
The source for this data is Mediametrie-eStat (May 2005).
Obviously working at Mirago I'd like to point out that we offer a French index, and our traffic is growing fairly steadily. Hopefully you will see us in that top ten by the end of 2006 ;)
Thanks,
Nick
