In an attempt to counterbalance the global players like Yahoo European portals Libero for Italy, Web.de for Germany and Wanadoo for France, Spain and UK have started a Paneuropean network, giving advertizers single point local access to 6 of the most important EURO markets.
Wanadoo, top portal in France, brings in Freeserve for the UK, as well as Wanadoo Spain and Wanadoo Netherlands. Wind brings in Libero.it, while Web.de is the largest independant portal in Germany.
Services will most likely focus on banners, sponsorships etc. It will be interesting to see if more search oriented marketing will also be added to the mix. An obvious candidate would be directory listings.
