Adsense, Content Targeted Ads coming to Germany and France

The technology behind Google's Content Trageted ads and Adsens programmes requires some serious linguistic analysis, and probably dedicated staff too.
So up to now both programmes were only available for English.
Only exception currently is some Content Ads partners. Those are however only a handful of very large sites. For now the programme resembles more the way Overture has implemented their Content match.

A Journal du Net article [journaldunet.com] now claims France will be next in line with Content Ads, starting with the tripod sites at Lycos.

More importantly, the article states the Adsense programme is going to be rolled out in 2003 in UK and Germany, later to be followed by France.

While I'm not convinced the Content Ads will have a great impact, as long as they are restricted to only a few sites, I certainly thing Adsense has the power to shake up the adcvertizing landscape in Europe.

are you saying that allowing adsense onto small niche sites will devalue it, or reduce it's significace in Europe, or indeed worldwide?

Sorry for being unclear.
The sentence actually should have been split to 2 parts.

I don't see the Content Targeted Ads programme having a huge impact, as long as the outlets are restricted to only 5 or 6 sites, as it is in Germany right now.

The Adsense programme however has the potential to make it big from the start IMO, as per it's very nature it has to be released on a broad scale.

Adsense is already live on the Lycos personal sites since July 1st.
I can't give any url here but try a search on Google. On my personal sites, the content ads are not visible on the homepage but only on the other pages.

I have to say that the ads are absolutely not related to my content... at all!

Isn't the Adsense program already in the uk? I am UK based and serve Adsense ads that are obviously geo-targetted when I view them from the UK.

Iguana, you are right, of course. It's available to all English language sites. Took the UK out of the title.
