i've checked my webalizer's info and can give you some info about russian traffic.
there is a website, it's about exchange program for students (work and travel usa), and mostly students are it's visitors.
Website keeps 1st place at yandex.ru, rambler.ru, aport.ru on most popular search phrases of this topic. At google.com it keeps number 8 on search phrases in English, and number 1 on search phrases in Russian (my users perform 50% searches by this topic in Russian, and 50% in English)
Yandex.ru gives me 67%
rambler.ru gives me 22%
aport.ru gives me 2%
google+yahoo give me 8%.
The problem is that I cannot say for sure how many people from Russia are using google/yahoo comparing to yandex and rambler. As I mentioned above, the site is about international "work and travel usa" program, and from one point of view not only users from Russia search google/yahoo by this topic, and from another side the website has only 8th place in google/yahoo if user searches using English alphabet.
But anyway, even if we say it would be twice more visits from Russia if I was 1st in google using Engish alphabet - even then google/yahoo will have only about 13% (Yandex - 64%, Rambler - 20%).
So the only thing I can say for sure is that among Russian SE Yandex is 3 times more popular than Rambler, and no other russian SE will give you the traffic you will see in your logs. And also - google is not the leader, as in most western countries.
Two things to keep in mind.
1. Number 1 mail-service in Russia mail.ru have been using Rambler's search results (and total Rambler's part increased by 1% reaching 22%), but recently they changed to use google's results. It may increase google's perecent slightly.
Mail.ru also has a directory, and this directory gives me 3% of users coming from SE.
2. Both Yandex.ru and Rambler.ru have directories. Rambler's directory shows most popular (by rambler's counter) resources first. I haven't made any researches yet, but think that both these directories may be a nice source of traffic.
Aport.ru also has a directory, I've been listed (0.5%).
I haven't heard about any other popular general directories, so there are probably no other directories you should spend your time adding with...
You have seen our Russian Search Engines thread [webmasterworld.com], right? It's somewhat out of date, but still interesting imo.
Russian SE Yandex is 3 times more popular than Rambler, and no other russian SE will give you the traffic you will see in your logs.
Now that's interesting, and it defenitly seems that Yandex is the most important search engine in Russia by far?
And also - google is not the leader, as in most western countries.
:) I like it when you have a few baskets to put your eggs in.
How's is the traffic in Russia? Are people starting to spend money online and buy stuff?
