Is there any way to get into Arianna's automated directory?

spaidermen, honestly I don't know. Arianna has a PFI programme, but that's only for the websearch, not the directory.
Hopefully some of our Italian members can help out here.

My idea is that for competitive keywords, those that leave crawler-based listings out in the cold, they rely upon Adwords-based PPC listings to give advertisers a chance.
In other words, Arianna gets two very differents faces according to the kind of keywords: either pure crawler-based listings or directory+PPC

Hi spiderman & heini,

the Quick AddSite service is for the directory ('catalogo' in Italian)

Ah - here we go, thanks misciab!

So they have a piaid inclusion to the directory as well:

Quick AddSite

1 site 100.00 €
2 sites 285.00 €
3 sites 450.00 e

annual fees.

Misciab, I would say welcome to WebmasterWorld, but I seem to remember you had a membership here before?

While we're at it: Do the directory listings pass on PR? Are the good for getting spidered? Do they bring traffic?
In other words, would you recommend paying to get in?

Do they read this forum at IOL? I just received a mail from them about the directory add site scheme!

Anyway, as far as listings are concerned, arianna directory works as like as looksmart for msn, apart from the PPC mechanism versus one-off payment.

s for page rank, I don't have a clue

Great Heini!
I had a membership some months ago! then I travelled around the world, studying linguistics.
The fees (the more you quickadd, the less you pay...):

1 site 100.00 €
3 sites 285.00 €
5 sites 450.00 €

In my opinion it is ReallY important to be in the websearch (Nielsen December 2002: 1-Virgilio.it, 2-Google.it, 3-Libero.it (arianna search).

As for the catalogue, the paid inclusion is new and at IOL they could give more relevance to the Quick AddSite sites.

Spiderman, I think they read the forum!

So welcome back, misciab!

Well, looking at the format of the listings there I doubt much PR gets transferred:

Yes the directory pages have resonable PR allright, but with those urls I wouldn't expect much of that PR gets passed to the listed sites.
Would be worth a study, as there have been redirect urls who seem to pass PR. But looking at my example... I doubt that.

Are you talking about directory urls or search urls or both?

I'm talking directory urls, spaidermen. Mouse over one of the listings in the cat you mention and you'll get a url like the one I posted above. I don't think those pass on much PR.

The directory is useless to the casual surfer. It is far to broad and in not particular order.

For example:

Travel: Foreign is a single category with 90 listings over nine pages, and get this, NOT IN ANY ORDER. As a surfer, I would never use Arianna - too unfriendly. I had difficulty finding the search box in all of those flickering images.

If you want to get italian users, try to get into Virgilio.

Directory placements influence se rankings.
So there's a value in it

Hi Spaidermen!
thanks for your interesting in Arianna catalogue :) ,
from Italy I can say that being inside that catalogue is not so important ( normally 70% of the traffic come from Google in Italy ) .

I'll never suggest to pay the PFI for Arianna! I'd prefer to make a good campaign with Espotting or Google Adwords targetting Italy.

awcabot said an intelligent thing : try to get inside Virgilio! and try to get a lot of PR>5 links

Hang on.

> ( normally 70% of the traffic come from Google in Italy )

That's not true.
Google alone does not reach 50%
I would estimate:
40% Google
20% Virgilio
15% Arianna
10% Msn
10% Fast (Lycos+Tiscali+Excite+Supereva)
5% Yahoo

> I'll never suggest to pay the PFI for Arianna! I'd prefer to make a good campaign with Espotting or Google Adwords targetting Italy.

With a good optimization in few days you can get top spots in Arianna for two-words keywords and gets click for free.
You just pay for inclusion.
In Espotting you pay them a minimum of 0,15

> awcabot said an intelligent thing : try to get inside Virgilio!

At present Getting inside Virgilio means spending 150 € with few chances of controlling placement, cause that's not determined by seo, rather by a ranking system akin to yahoo.com's directory ranking.
