Are LookSmart registrations worth the money

I run a web site where customers can search out, and book Danish Vacation-houses.

Are LookSmart registrations worth the money when targeting de, no, se co.uk and dk customers in their respective languages?

I'm thinking both in terms of direct traffic and LP.

Hello scrix
welcome to the WmW
A LS listing generally isn't what it used to be. To my knowledge it would bring you into SOL, but only into the directory. You can try and find out what that would do for your linkpop. I do not think it would generate much traffic.

MSN is not that big in Scandinavia, I believe. Rather unimportant in Denmark, not a top player in Norway and Sweden.

Coughing up the approx. 200 Euro per country is perhaps peanuts for a biz like the one you're in, but I'm not sure if other ways of promoting your site wouldn't be more effective

<not a top player in Norway and Sweden.>

I think msn is huge in Sweden. I talked with a person who was moderator here a time ago just about this. and msn is one of the biggest here i got alot of msn.se/spbasic. And you have to pay LS to get in to msn.se.
I should try that after the new year to put two of my client to that. I will come with a report of that if anybody are interessted of that.

Does that person happen to live in Sweden, known as one of the most knowledgable people on European SE-scene? :)
Ove, it's always good to have firsthand experience from local folks like you and Rencke. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for your replies so far. What about Germany and the UK?

Scrix,
As far as the uk is concerned, looksmart still plays a role. MSN and AV are the best opportunities, especially with the demise of excite uk. Additionally, AV's referals have dropped off in recent months.

Also, UK search engines filter out domains that are not .co.uk so it's worth considering a .co.uk domain name.

Sure, if your client got the dough. I could anyhow think of some other things worth the money.
Example Germany: AV.de has become a big player - among the small engines. Want to get traffic from there? Go pay Overture.
Then there is Freenet... cough.
I would think of paying Yahoo.de, Web.de, Fireball.de - and if you need quick results without any hassle go pay Overture and Espotting.

Best bet anyhow is Google and Fast.

LS has just closed down their presence in mainland Europe. I guess that accuratley reflects their importance over here.
