An informal gathering of British WebmasterWorld members and moderators will take place in London on Saturday 21 July from 1 pm until closing hour at the ancient Cittie of York pub [pubs.com] at 22 High Holborn in Central London. I am told that all those mainland Europeans, who are not afraid of islands in the Atlantic, are welcome to join. For those of you who live where Ryanair flies, the transportation will be dirt cheap.

The discussion about this event goes on in the UK & Ireland forum right here:

I'm defintely going :)

As mentioned the cost of flying Denmark/London is very low at this time and NFFC mentioned this hotel [thistlehotels.com] for accommodation. It looks nice and affordable.

Any other non-UK's going?

Looking forward to see you all!

oLeon, this would be an extremely good opportunity for you to buy the beers you owe ;)

Strange rate structure:

THISTLE SAVER INC BREAKFAST & DINNER
Executive,Single Room,MODERN,SATELLITE TV DESK,MODEM,AIR CONDITIONING
Daily Rate: 60.00 Pound Sterling

THISTLE BREAK INC BREAKFAST AND TAX
Executive,Single Room,MODERN,SATELLITE TV DESK,MODEM,AIR CONDITIONING
Daily Rate: 77.50 Pound Sterling

How can room breakfast and dinner be £17:50 cheaper than room breakfast and tax? Is tax that high (or dinner that poor?)

I think I owe oLeon quite a few beers, this might be a good time for him to pick them up.

Added: Just booked Ryanair. Can scarcely believe the fare: 845 SEK equal to $77 for Stockholm - London round trip including taxes. That's a 2½ hour flight each way!!! And I picked the £60 deal at Thistle at Kings Cross. I'll be arriving around 7 pm at the hotel on Friday the 20th, returning Sunday evening, in case anyone wants to see me munching away on my included dinner.

rencke...that is probably down to the fabled British cuisine...£17.50 to avoid dinner may be a small price to pay

:)

I too have done the bookings today. Will be arriving around lunch time Friday and leaving Sunday evening as well.

>Can scarcely believe the fare

Agreed. Bought 2 round trip tickets for $260 total (couldn't convince the girl friend that I had to go alone).

Wondering why a 50 minute flight from Denmark is almost twice the fare for a 2 1/2 hour flight from Sweden?
Noticed a price change from when I first checked out a one person ticket to when I actually made the reservation for 2 persons. The ticket price per person is cheaper if you buy them seperately.
Strange.

Well, see you at Thistle at Kings Cross :)

>Wondering why a 50 minute flight from Denmark is almost twice the fare for a 2 1/2 hour flight from Sweden?

Strange... But I did notice that Ryanair had something on their page about special extra low fares if booked before midnight on the 7th. You may have missed that if you booked today. Another reason might be the airport. You will be flying out of Billund, right? I will be flying out of the cheap Skavsta Airport in Nyköping 100 kms south of Stockholm. Airport charges have a lot to do with fares.

Saw that Angiolo will be joining us from Italy. No word from heini and oLeon yet. Maybe the Germans want to stay clear of the beverage that the Brits call beer?

>£17.50 to avoid dinner may be a small price to pay
That is really the only logical explanation, isn't it?

Happy announcements:

1. A special website for the conference has opened at [pubconference.com...]

2. Attendance [webmasterworld.com] is going to be great with 34 confirmed so far, including WebmasterWorld moderators rcjordan and Mike_Mackin from the US, engine, NFFC, Tigger, sugarkane and myself from Europe. The room takes 60 and with 4 weeks to go, seems likely to fill up.

3. By courtesy of Siljan Tourism [siljan-dalarna.com] a souvenir Dalecarlian horse will be given to all those attending who have posted in the European forum.

This will be a perfect opportunity to pick the brains of other professionals at absolutely no cost. Indeed, I am told that there will even be a supply of free beer (for the early birds anyway).

You should have thought of that before you decided to live so far away from everything. ;)

A tip: check out Ryanair [ryanair.co.uk] and make a note of all the places in Europe they fly to. Then search for cheap flights from your place to any Ryanair destination. With a bit of luck, you may not need more than a few hundred dollars.

>souvenir Dalecarlian horse

Actually, that's what clinched it for me. Jan promised that he'd have King Carl invite me over for the Nobel festivities [theonion.com] and Carl (he told me to call him that) would also autograph my Dalecarlian horse momento.

Free beer? That´s my catchword:
I know I owe some beer...and I am going to fulfill what I promised :-))
Yes, I am in London, too. I could persuade my boss that it´s neccessary to go to London - it seems it was the argument I´ll pay the accommodation myself...

A great site about the conference! Especially the agenda I really love it....

Actually, I owe you at least one six-pack.

Your boss is smarter than you are. (Maybe that's how he made you work for him?) The air fare is a lot less than accommodation, judging from this:

Looking forward to seeing you again.

A question: who is going to book the recommnded hotel (Thistle...)? I don´t want to be the only one...

[BTW: Hmmm...I really can´t figure it: it´s said a price £76 for two nights [Fri+Sat], but I can´t reach it by booking. Has anybody an idea? ]

Take a look at the confirmation thread, the Thistle is fast becoming "SEO Central." I've already bribed the housekeeping staff to survey all the wastebasket contents and bring me any interesting scraps of paper -names, phone numbers, etc.

Maybe these guys [nodoping.olympic.org] would love to hear about your findings too. They have a tradition of finding this kind of info interesting.
