France unveiled a Web site [geoportail.fr...] on Friday that allows people to access detailed satellite images of the country and said it offered more detail of its territory than Google Earth.

I couldn't get [geoportail.fr...] to open. Anyone able to see it?

Oui.

I got the front page to open, but got bored waiting for the images; I suspect it's geared to francophones ;)

the menu suggests they have images of many current and ex-colonies, weirdly excluding Algeria and Quebec.
