Bad ODP Description.

Where DO they get the the titles!

I have found a listing for my daily horoscopes page here:

[directory.google.com...]

At the bottom of course. And they have it listed as "STRAIGHT ASTROLOGY" leaving out the R and L??????

I searched the page visually and with a find utility and I do not even have the word STRAIGHT on it, anywhere, caps and no caps.
Also used the find on the entire site...zip.

If at all possible can you clear this up for me? It is STARLIGHT ASTROLOGY.

The editor in dmoz (aka the Open Directory Project) got it wrong. Here's where you can contact that editor:

Doesn't really matter whose error it was, the update url is the way dmoz says to submit that kind of correction. Email to the editor may work as well; some editors are more on top of their email load than are others.

JayC, that's correct. The "Update URL" form is used for the following changes:

* Replace an old URL with a new URL when it has changed.
* Correct spelling and grammatical errors in the site's title and description.
* Suggest a new title when the title on the site has changed.
* Suggest a new description when the scope of the site has changed.

I don't know what title was submitted with the website (that in the meta tags is "Daily Horoscopes on line for your enjoyment").

Presumably it wasn't submission guidelines conforming, otherwise the editor wouldn't have had to change it :).

It is against guidelines to list a site twice in a category. In this case, your main page is listed one above the deeplinked page.

I'm going to venture a guess that this is the reason the referenced link no longer appears in ODP.

The difference between "feedbacking" an editor and using 'update' is not about "who did what", it's just a better way of getting the job done ...

If you email, you may - or may not - reach the editor, who may or may not act. for a variety of good and bad reasons.

If you use the update form, your request is linked to the category, and can be seen by *any* visiting editor. So your problem will probably be dealt with much quicker.

The site she is referring to is not in the directory. It is in a non-updated part of the Google directory (you can tell because even though listed under that category, there are none of the little >>> thingies).

I presume it was taken out of the directory because it was a deep link of her site that was already listed in the category above it.

Googleguy would have to answer why it still shows up at all as part of that directory.

There's Probably A Thread Called "When Does Google Update?". Which Will Reveal All.

But that doesn't change the ODP issue; if you resubmit with an explanation, *any* editor visiting that category can see it, whereas a 'feedback' is specific to one individual, who may have gone fishing.
