How do I know if my submission to dmoz was refused? Will they inform me if I gave them an email address?

Presumably yes. There have been a number of people who have complained that after multiple submissions, they just never got a response. It appears the DMOZ is short on editors. Unless rejected, assume you were just ignored.

Normally, you will not hear if your site has been accepted; it'll just appear.

Similarly, you won't hear if it has been declined.

there's no set time, as the editors are volunteers, and some parts of the directory are better 'staffed' than others, compared to the workload.

I'd advise wait a month or so, then search; then deicde what, if anything, to do next.

Sites that are submitted correctly (ie follow the guidelines) will often appear quicker than those that don't, as poorly submitted sites may need more work, or may need to be diverted to the correct category (at the back of the queue).

Sites in total contempt of the guidelines may never get listed. I wrote to a site recently which had had AT LEAST 50 inappropriate submissions, suggesting he make up his mind ... I know of many who have not got near 50.

And that's 50 wasted submissions; deletions are much quicker!

Note too, that even when an editor accepts the listing. It may not appear in your search until the search database has been updated. The date of the last update should be viewable at the bottom of the 'results' page.
So, if you are caught just after an update, it may take a while for your site to appear.

If you know the url is clean, then patience is a virtue, a month is a resonable time for inclusion. 1st make sute the cat you are submitting to is the most appropriate to your sites content and will be best placed in that category for a searcher using the odps database.

Do not keep on submitting, it is better to approach an editor after a couple of submissions after a couple of months and ask what the problems is. If you don't get a response from the editor of the cat move up the directory and contact the next editor. You will get a reply.
