Hello, etones and welcome to WebmasterWorld. I hope you will like it here.

ODP, The Open Directory project, is a directory of the web edited by real humans, 30.936 to be precise. As of 1 minute ago, they had 2.161.906 sites arranged into 316.007 categories. You will find them at
[dmoz.org...] The site contains a lot of useful information about themselves, which I urge you to read. It is both important and interesting.

Information from ODP is used by a large number of search engines and directories all over the world. That is why it is so important to have your site listed there, and why they are mentioned along with Yahoo in the name for this forum. Before you register your site there, be sure to read everything they have published about site submission and also read up on the ODP discussions here. Believe me, it is time well invested.

Etones: It should be clear to you by know, that WebmasterWorld is a place where members race to the scene to welcome newcomers. It was a tight race between me and Mike, but I guess I had the millisconds on my side.

Sorry Mike, ain't got authority for this forum and those who have may not be awake yet. Just remove the HTML, i.e. and ">odp users and observe the miracle that will happen.

Added: You've got it! The only reason that I knew about that is that I violated my own basic principle: Real hombres don't read manuals and never click 'help' !

We need a "Real hombres" thread in FOO

Absolutely! And it should be started by a steadfast hombre, who - unlike myself - has not forfeited his/her right to speak on the subject. You do it!

>You do it!

The FOO moderator stumbles across this post and, noting the two that are involved, only has one thought:

Uh-oh!

I hope this is allowed. If it is not, I apologize. Last year, I wrote an article about the history of ODP [laisha.com] and another one about how to effectively submit at ODP [laisha.com].

These have been called very helpful, which I believe is true.

I keep meaning to link those zine articles from my site. Hell! I keep meaning to optimize the damned site!

Good, focused ODP "How To" is exactly what WebmasterWorld wants to make available. Thanks, Laisha.

I second that there are no dumb questions.

After all it took the innocent boy to say that the Emporer had no clothes...
