DMOZ Listing

What does it take to get listed?

Our web site has been around many years but we have never been listed on DMOZ. Recently (a couple of months ago) we submitted our site to dmoz.org. No response -- how long does it take to get listed?

A good deal of patience! I've been waiting for an update for over 2 months now.

It depends on how active the editor is in the particular category you submit to. Some editors edit daily. Others don't have as much time - so it COULD take anywhere from a day to a few months.

If you feel your site may have been refused, you can email the editor for that category, asking if/why it was not listed.

I'm still waiting on a couple of sites myself..

I will give it another "Me to..."

I submitted 3 differant sites about 3 months ago and still haven't heard anything at all.

Not even a rejection...

They usually don't email you when your site is rejected. But it's totally acceptable to email the editor (after about 6 weeks or so) to inquire about the status of your submission.

It all depends on the editors for your category. I have had some sites get listed in a matter of minutes and others take a few months. I was an editor at one time and I would generally list new sites within a day or two. Generally speaking, the average I have seen for most of the sites I submitted is around a month. If you start getting to the 2-3 month range and have seen nothing yet you should start politely contacting editors.

If you do a search here for your question you will probably find a lot of threads dealing with this issue.

Great News!!

I just received an email for an editor at ODP. I about fell off my chair.

I took the advise from someone here in the forum, Napeleon, mcguffin, I couldn't find the thread, but anyway, I emailed the editor in the catagory above mine, explained the problem, and he did it, he fixed the spelling errors in the entry, HURRAY!!!!.

I asked for 3 changes, but hey I live with this, at least I don't have to look at the mis-spelled words anymore!

I've been trying for OVER A YEAR! Eventually, I found someone at DMOZ willing to respond and help out (Her initial is "L")! But, the other editors continue to ignore my pleas and continue to publish incorrect listings.

Some DMOZ editors NEVER respond. It's sad.

Have your tried the link that
turbosaab posted in an earlier thread.

I did and they really talk to you.

Just remember to be extremely polite and don't over emphasis your problem.

Worked for me.

Been waiting 4 months now. Just emailed to politely ask whazzup.

Is there a big problem if you try another category where perhaps the editor is less busy?
