Latest ODP Data on Google

When does Google update latest dmoz additions?

After 8 months of trying to get into the ODP I was very pleased to find by chance that our site had recently been added. I'm overjoyed I have to say, although no-one other than fellow webmasters can possibly understand why. ;) Anyway, I feel satisfied and relieved that my patience and trust paid off.

I noticed this morning that the ODP search results have now been updated, I think someone else also posted that fact here too.

I am curious now though of course to find out how long it might take for the addition to be added in the Google directory. Any idea?

It's probably a borderline Google forum question, but hey, I thought I'd try and share it around a bit.

I wonder also what the latest opinion is on how much effect keywords included in an ODP listing (not link text) have on Google rankings for the same keywords?

Hey congrats, moose, and welcome to the forums. I know that feeling of finally getting it in.

I don't have an answer for you but I am waiting on the same thing. I don't see any update yet from a site that was added a couple of weeks ago.

Hi has this post been answered somewhere else, I can't seem to find an answer.

I am having a similar problem, after reading through all these forums I have made some changes to my sites and adjusted my urls in the dmo directory. One of the sites actually is correct in the dmoz search results as of this week. I have 2 questions.

1. How long does is generally take for the new dmoz listings to appear in the Google Directory?

2. Does your dmoz listing have to be correct in the search results to be transferred to the Google Directory or does it just have to be correct in the Dmoz directory listing?

Thanks.

Google updates it's version of the directory on a monthly basis, usually around the time the "Google Dance" begins. As for dmoz search results, they have absolutely no impact on Google.

What rafalk said. DMOZ cannot force Google (or anyone, for that matter) to download regularily. The downstream data users (companies who use the RDF dump) download the RDF as often as they want. You may need to ask that on the Google forum then place their answer here...

The last time I had feedback from an ODP editor on this topic, she estimated that around 3 months was a reasonable maximum, 2 for Google to take the data, then it appears in the next update

Thanks all, it's been a couple months now, so hopefully I'll see the change soon.

It's been 2-3 months lately, though this depends on your timing. If you happen to get listed right before Google does whatever it does to ODP, then it could probably be much faster. Get listed the date after Google comes to grab the data and it probably end up closer to 3 months.

In my experience it averages 2 updates (google).

I have had 2 sites that took just under 4 months, I think it all depends on timing as pointed out by Skibum, but it is well worth the wait ;)
