Duh! the answer was already in the forum.

If I'd only read the *entire* forum I'd find the answers I'm looking for!

Although, it's difficult to keep up sometimes...

No listing is ever automatically removed from the ODP. There are, however, intermittent runs of "robozilla", a spider that checks the accessability of all listed sites. It runs several times a year, flagging inaccessible sites for review by the editors.

If it should happen that the domain you're buying gets removed from an ODP category because of this process, then that's no problem for you at all. Once you have your new site up and running, just submit it again to the most appropriate category. Since there was an editor who checked for the robo flags there, chances are there will be someone to check for new submissions as well. You probably don't want that listing to sit there with the description for the old site anyway, and possibly not even in the same category as it was before.

Our goal is to list sites, not to remove them. If we have to remove sites because they don't work, then we're unhappy. If such a site later gets reanimated, then we certainly won't punish it for what happened, but we'll be glad to have it around again. :)
