I have to move a site from a subdomain to a domain name this month. It'll be done a section at a time, and when it's finished, I will have to change the Yahoo and Open Directory listings.

How long does a change usually take with ODP? (I know the answer is someplace, I just couldn't find it.)

That would depend on which category its listed in. Some categories are busier than others, which could lead to a longer wait. Also, some categories have multiple active editors while others have no listed editors but are handled by editors in higher categories. Once the change is made within the ODP, it'll be a wait of from days to weeks, perhaps even months, for each of our clients to update their own data on their own schedule.

Hi Marcia, if you post what category your URL is in, happenstance a visitor here might be the editor.

Welcome to the board Kfander - thanks for dialing us up.

Marcia, I've had sites updated within 15mins (yes 15mins), and others have been ignored - it's pot luck.

If the sub-domain to domain all remains on the same host, both sets of links should continue to work. When I bought my domain name and directed to the site, I left many of the links to images and files the old sub-domain route and they all continue to work just fine. Even if you changed hosts, leave both sites up until the new one is solidly listed, especially if the service is on a free host or the site makes money for you.
