the bad news is that i haven't been added to the directory yet, anyone know the timescale, i always figured that you got added to the catagory straight away (if included) but that it took a while for the search to kick in.
its been about 48 hrs since the visit should i assume it won't be added??
It's more likely that a DMOZ spider dropped by. All that does is verify the URL. If the URL 404s on the spider and it 404s when the editor does drop by, your submission will be canned.
i'll try and learn more patience
... and add some (more) content to the site before resubmitting if rejected in a month or so.
for the record the refering url was...
[dmoz.org...]
the string after the ? was truncated by livestats.
There is not any reason I can think of that an editor would look at a site, decide to add it in the category where it was submitted and then wait to add it.
its a first for me, i haven't had a site rejected before,
is it acceptable to write to the editor to ask why?? (politely of course)
the site in question was added to the database and listed about 3 days after the editor visit, am grateful of course but no clue as to the delay
....Maybe your site was 404ing on them, so they put it to the back of their pile -- if so, three days is a fast turn around, especially if their pile of unedited sites is high.
....Maybe they had a question about your site, and referred it to a higher editor.
....Maybe the editor had given over an hour to editing some submissions one evening, and then the doorbell rang -- and they didn't get back from a wild weekend in Reno for three days. Volunteer editors don't volunteer regular editing hours.
One possible clue as to whether it was you or them is just how much they've edited your title and site description. A submission where the editor just has to verify the details is likely to get in faster than one where they need to do a lot of head scratching to work out what the site is about.
in this case the description and site title was kept exactly as i "suggested"
in general i'm not being greedy and i have been submitting genuine content rich sites around a couple of major keywords, so i haven't keyword stuffed my descriptions or title, just kept it simple in an attempt to keep it intact, so far with high success.
there was a problem with the ssl the day of the initial visit, although if that was the reason for the delay i'm mighty impressed as that would have required a good testing of the site and taking goods actually to the secure checkout.
