Over a 2 months ago I submitted to DMOZ, trying to add my fiance's wedding invitation web site to the directory. The category is ultra small. Has she been addded? NO. Why? There is no reason for her not to be added. She sells custom wedding invitations and belongs in this category. After about a month, I sent 2 emails to each of the categories editors. Nothing. If these so called editors are not doing their jobs then remove them. For DMOZ to have such respect, they need some serious help. This is such a crock of bull.
This is not the first time it has happened to me. And not the only category. I like the idea of DMOZ, but if you have this much respect from other SE's and Directories, make sure that you run a quality operation. Now I am not saying that all of the editors are bad, and I have had one good experience with a quick response. But, the bad outway the good by far. It sure doesn't take long for an editor to visit a site and decide if it is suitable to be submitted to the directory or not. And for Google to mirror the directory, makes me wonder even why they do. It is a poor resource that need major improvements.
Sorry for all of this, but I just needed to vent to some other people who understand.
Thanks,

At the ODP, I get stuff like:
"Come to my wbsite, and yule find the coolest stuff!!! COOLEST UTELITIES EVER-FOR ALL TIME!"
I deal with pop-ups, pop-unders, pop-tarts...(ooops that's breakfast), sites waiting to be reviewed that are under construction, sites waiting to be reviewed that are ALREADY 404'd, changing URL's, etc...
A GOOD edit may take upwards of 5 minutes, to keep the edit within all the guidelines.
I strongly suggest, that anyone who wishes to submit their website to the ODP, take the test at ZEAL first, and learn what is a good description, and THEN submit a good, objective description to the ODP.
It WILL get reviewed, and if YOU did your homework, the editor doesn't need to do it for you. Trust me, you won't like the description the editor gives your site if the original description you submitted is not within the guidelines.
They don't 'care' about your site like you do, and it's going to be a description that fits the guidelines, and not something like this:
"Super Coolest Lion King stufed animals. Cheapest Prices on the intrenet. Practicly FREE! only $59.00 each or 50 for $1000! That's write FREE-Forever-and ever!!!!"
You forgot...
" ...and more !!! "
Sometimes you can just copy and paste pieces of text here and there to get an excellent description.
In DMOZ is useful to have a look at higher category that have an editor to have an idea on what is allowed or not allowed.
To find the right DMOZ directory to submit, try a search on the more relavant keywords in any directory and in Google: in Google yiou will note the best suited DMOZ directories.
