Forum Moderators: open
over 3 times I think. Waited couple of months and no response. Now the Category doesn't have an editor. I tried to apply but got rejected.
Someone told me it may be the amount of ads on the website. Compared to sites that are already in there it's minnimal [URL of another site removed].
It looks like the specific directory is not moving anywhere and I didn't see it change in a while. Now if they refuse to accept a helping hand, than how are we able to add our site in the directory?
What does it take?
Cheers,
Dom
Generally speaking, you want to wait more than 4 weeks before worrying about why a site isn't listed, particularly on a Web Design and Development subcategory. Obviously, owners of these sites are more aware of the existence of ODP than most people, so the backlog in those categories is always daunting.

Several pointers, which are not specific to your site, include:
-> Be patient.
-> Keep your unique content:ad ratio high. The term "too many ads" is subjective, and you need to keep in mind the fact that some editors have a lower threshold than others for it.
-> Help out with the title and description. If you do the work here, the editor won't have to and may even list your site before tackling the "harder" ones. Keep in mind that the title should be the real title of the site, the descriptions should not have every word capitalized, and the description should describe what is on the site.
Also, there is an insane guideline in ODP which states that a word should not be repeated in the title or description of a site. Clearly, this is sometimes impossible to follow, but if you keep it in mind when crafting titles and descriptions, it would definitely help.

Welcome, DayGlow.
One banner shouldn't keep your site out under normal circumstances.
However, please read my above post about the subjective nature of editing there. If you have a huge banner and two lines of text, then it probably won't be listed. Again, there is the content-to-ad ratio factor to be considered.
It's been nearly 3 months since my submission, and I haven't had even an e-mail reply.
I submitted again about a week ago...hopefully it will 'take' this time, but I'm still disgusted.
I've done a great deal of work on original content, and I have NOTHING to sell...but I wasn't listed earlier. I don't understand why.
The other question I have is:
How many categories are an acceptable amount to submit to? If I have several 'sections' dedicated to different areas of interest on my site...does each section get a submission?
Thanks, in advance, for the answers.
Question 1: One. Listings in more than one category should be the exception, and rare. Submit too often, too many categories and someone might think spam.
Question 2: Depends, but usually not.
I'm not trying to be vague, but the answer isn't that easy, if you read the ODP Guidelines you'll have a better answer than I could ever provide here.
Laisha's comment about helping the editor is of course, good advice. No meta keywords, no hype, no adverbs.
If you want to know what editors do with the descriptions, go to the [dmoz.org...] and search on "ODP Guidelines" .
If you read the Guidelines, and keep them in mind when making your submissions, you can be relatively certain that the only thing holding back your listing is that an editor probably hasn't had a chance to look at it yet.
In any event, it would be very rare for an editor to contact a submitter. I'm a newbie. I've only been editing for a little less than 4 month. I've emailed webmasters twice. Both times I regreted it.
