Applying to Become an Editor

Hi All,

I am planing to apply to become an editor of ODP. Have read about it and will start with a small category (not many listings) in the regional area.

My question - I do online marketing and SEO for my clients and wonder if I should put this in my app?

Also, the category I was thinking of applying to is one where one of my client sites is currently listed. Would that be ok? I don't want to subvert the entries or anything it's just a subject I know well and know quite a few sites (not related to me) I could add to it. I am happy to tell you the category if that's ok.

Many thanks,
Soph

You don't have to disclose your web development activities unless they relate to the topic you are applying to edit or site(s) within that category.

If one of your sites is listed, or will be submitted, to that category you should so state in your application. That won't disqualify you - after all, they want editors familiar with the category. Just don't go "cooling" your site or trashing your competitors.

also, if at first you don't succeed try again. You may not get the category you are interested for various reasons but that doesn't mean you are now ineligible to become and editor. Try a regional cat for the city or town you live in - they are much easier to get. Once you start building your ODP reputation it will become easier to get new cats to edit.

As an outsider, sometimes it isn't evident where help is needed most. A category with no editor, for example, may be well under control by the editor of the next category up. As oilman says, pick a small category, and if you don't succeed at first, keep trying.

Thanks rogerd and oilman. I am applying today so wish me luck!

BTW - I am not sure of the ettiquette here (still learning) but is it possible to tell you the cat and get opinions?
